Building your vocabulary

1. Take inventory of your vocabulary
2. Be on the alert for new words.
3. Write down the word, its definition, and its pronunciation.
4. Use the Word.
5. Review.

 

Using context clues

1. Restatement
   • A restatement is merely stating the word in another way, usually in simpler terms.
   • Set off by commas
2. Synonyms
   • A synonym is one of two or more words that have the same or similar meaning.
3. Antonyms
   • An antonym is a word of opposite meaning.
4. Definitions
5. Explanation
   • As an aid to the reader
6. Relationships
   • Less concrete and requires more thinking
