General Update!
Everything is been going on great since school started. Before school started, we had the new student orientation which was awesome. It was so much fun i wish it went on forever but we had to get back to work... Classes has been awesome except my Cal. 2 that i have to do extra work. Ashpu has been great, i got the position of fundraising committee chair. I am excited and i really want to give it my best shot! I got into an accident with my supervisor on the first monday the 13th of August, It wasn't that bad though but thank God we're both still alive. I got a cell phone finally! Call me....
THE START OF A NEW JOURNEY
Although i have been studying for the past years to be a doctor, I started the journey to medical school this summer, I call it a journey because i think it reminds me of when i was coming to the United States about three years ago.

I took my Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) on Saturday the 14th of August, and it was good. I gave it my best. For the past two months or so, i have been studying hard for this exam and taking prep. classes at Kaplan. That was why i had to cut my vacation short. Everyone that took the exam that saturday had something or the other to say, either good or bad but unlike most people, i refuse to perceive the exam as one that determines my future because it doesn't; its only part of the plan God has for my life. (Jeremiah 29:11-14)

HYDROPONIC RESEARCH
Out of my little time, i still participated in the research the TRI-BETA honor society was doing this summer. So far, we've seen a good yeild from the seed we have planted and we hope to have a plant sale in the beginning of the semester. SO if you like vegetables. Make sure you come get some. Food grown this way are known to be most healthy!
  • Home Sweet Home:
My trip to Nigeria was so much fun. Before I start giving the details, I'd like to apologies for those who didn't know I was traveling, It was a planned trip but I wasn't sure of my transit visa status until Wednesday before I left and since it was exam time, you know, I concentrated on the exam.

So like I said, it was so much fun, I looked forward to the rough life but not the changes, so that came as a big shock to me. Everything is so different now, the young kids of those days are not grown to be taller and bigger (what am I think? just because i stay the same doesn't mean others will). It wasn't until i set my eyes on my family at the airport that i knew just how much i miss home and my family.

Anyway, the excitement started when I got to Amsterdam, after waiting 6 hours, I bet I can give you a pretty detailed map of the airport. On the plane were many Nigerians and some others from other countries, also on the plane was Genevieve Nnaji (one of Nigeria's movie star), she was also coming from US on vacation. As the plane landed in Muritala Airport, despite the fact that it was KLM, everyone on the plane started clapping except me and maybe some other few people, I find that funny, if you don't understand, check out my Joke link # 13 "Nigeria Air".

About 20 minutes to the time we landed (arround 5:30pm), we were already able to see Nigeria clearly, but guess what I saw? The rusted roofs over the houses in Nigeria, the danfo buses, okadas roaming the streets and the everlasting hold-up or go-slow (ya'll call it trafic in the states). I was pretty excited because I just wanted to experience that once again. Not long after that, I got my welcome to Nigeria orientation of about 3 hour go-slow on the way home, my excitement was fast diminishing but I was trying to enjoy every since moment of it.

My trip was short so i wanted to make the most of every minute i had and what better way is there to have fun in Nigeria than traveling arround in public transport. I still think its the best way to have a first hand experience of life in Nigeria. So although my parents didn't like the idea, i was shuttling arround on Okada and and danfos like crazy. Check out some of the pix.

Every day was interesting, unfortunately i can't give a detailed account. But thanks to my friends that made everything all come together. I went out almost every single day after I got my visa renewed (major!) until my dad could no longer stand it. I wasn't able to visit LAG but I went to LASU with Biodun 2. I visited Yaba and of course went to Oshodi (unfortunately I didn't take pixtures) I traveled to Ogun State to visit my sisters and high school friends that live there. Those J.S.S. 2 kids are now in S.S.2, S.S.3 HUH!! others sitting for their WAEC exam.

. I really cannot describe exactly in words what a splendid time I had in Nigeria but I sure enjoyed every minute of my time. My sister let me borrow her phone and it never stopped ringing. I thot i liked talking on the phone. I almost became phonephobic. text messages was always waiting on the phone for me, the house phone had fault because I kept using it, Since i could only communicate with my out of state friend on phone. Since GSM has been introduced to Nigeria in 2001, all kinds of new slangs also make their way into our vocabulary. The most popular being "flashing"- its what you do when you almost out of your talk time yet wants to talk someone. Its supposed to be very economically since you dont pay to flash. You simply call the person and cut off the phone after it rings twice. If you're lucky, the person might just call you back since your number shows up as missed call. This is a very good money saving strategy since in Nigeria you pay only for outgoing calls not incoming calls. I just want to thank everyone who made this trip a wonderful one, I must admit I was very surprised that Seun came to visit me from OSU (only Lord knows how long he waited for me while i was out), Seun Fatilewa from IFE and, also Biodun-1 who came from EPE, I really appreciate the visit. Guys you know this trip wouldn't be the same without you, although I left a little too soon, I believe in the words Seun wrote to me that "Friendship doesn't only involve seeing each other every time but also remembering each other even in our busy days. 'So lets keep the fire of friendship burning and keep in touch no matter what.

    Much Aloha.

  • End of semester, HOME SWEET HOME! This semester came and went with its bag and baggages but thank goodness i wasable to handle it. I'm glad its over and even more exciting is that i am going home to Nigeria for the summer. Yes its good to be back home after two and half years. If i can manage some time while in Nigeria, i will update my website, if not, die of suspense! just kidding, I will update as soon as i come back. No place like home. Have a great summer!
  • President Host induction: Along with about 50 students, i was inducted president host. We had to give a short speech and i was so nervous which is very unlike me well i survived it. It wasn't so bad.
  • ASHPU Election: I ran for windward representative in the HPU student government (ASHPU). Its been my dream to join ever since Fred Akpaka was still a member but other school activities did not allow that, anyway since my senior is open up, i decided to join the ASHPU but i ran for windward instead of just being rep. at large and guess what? I won! I'm not suprised since i ran unopposed.
  • Meeting Admiral Thomas Fargo: On the I had the honor to meet commander of the U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM)Admiral Thomas Fargo. He reports directly to President Bush. Thats exciting.
  • On TV (Intercultural Day): The intercultural day was a success. I was on channel 2 news on friday for this year Intercultural day, i was interviewed so also was Vitus, a lot of people loved my Fulani attire and Yoruba hat and Vitus' attire (cameroon) earned him picture of the week on HPU wedsite. Although the Universal African club did not do any of the great performances like we used to in the past, we came second in the parade. (pix) The universal African club is starting afresh in HPU and we are considering forming a bigger group that will include the African Americans in HPU but there is nothing confirmed yet.
  • From last saturday, my family and i started kick-boxing classes. It was both interesting and exhusting, i tell you the instructor is a witch, At a point we had to do push ups and guess how many, 100! I'm not training to joining the military! We got into punching bags and she taugh us much about jabs, upper cult, side kicks, elbow and all that. Generally it was fun, i look forward to going ther every saturday so maybe i can loose some extra weigh hanging down my tummy (its not true, i dont have any) but yeah its exciting that we get to go as a family every saturday mornings. BTW, watch for me cos i'm going to be practicing on you!
Last sunday before school starts is one of the most memorable day of this holiday, we went to the finals of sony open. Naturally, i love outdoor sports but golf isn't just any sport i take serious or have a passion for but after spending close to 4 hours watching the pros, i got into the game. So what made it memorable was that i and my cousins were on TV, we chose a very good spot to watch the game from so from time to time we were on camera. After the game came time for Ernie Els to sign autographs! I did something i haven't done in so long, I ran like crazy, shouted like mad in short did everything that just doesn't make me Yetty just to get his autograph, I guess that comes with fame and success, The guy went home with nothing less than $850,000. I stuck my hand between the car door even though the door was about to be closed hoping i would get a share of the $0.8M then at least med school debt is being paid off. In short, I had so much fun but it was very hot cos we went straight from church and we had church cloths on.
Since the new year rolled in, i figured it would be cool to start it off with a new look, both physically and my website so i have changed many things on the site, i hope it makes it easier and more fun to browse thru. I added new pixtures of some of my friends but expect more pictures especially mine to come soon. I also changed my class schedule so instead of the monday night physics lab, i'm taking the lab 3 times a week immediately after my physics lecture class. I bet we all enjoyed the holiday and we are prepared and well rested for the coming semester. Have a nice semester
The xmas party was fun and hilarious, It was mostly African students i guess the news did not spread well enough, but as usual, Nigerians dominated the place. It was a good time to get together again after such a busy semester. We used the opportunity to briefly discuss about the upcoming Intercultural day in the spring. Looks like we are going to participate if everyone get involve. Just a little reminder, Christmas is a joyous season but in the midst of the happiness, food, drinking and merriment, we should remember that Jesus is the reason for this season so i hope we all take the time to acknowledge Him. Have a very Merry and safe christmas. Mele Kalikimaka...Return to Web Site
I'm Back! I have a feeling you're going, "I knew she wasn't going to keep up" but you're wrong! very wrong. Internet's been down at our house and is still down. I've got too much to write cos a lot's going on but I've got too little time anywayz here's quick 411 of what's been happening.
First of all, I landed with a 3.75 GPA this semester so that keeps me on the dean's list. Although my goal was a 4.0 there is no excuse for not meeting that goal. What i need is at least a Cum laude at graduation which so far is visible. With 3 more semester of work i can get a Magna Cum laude but not Summa Cum laude too bad. By summer, my semesters of hard work is pau in HPU, and I am unofficially done with college. I generated a list of Medical schools I'm interested in and looks like I just might be staying in Hawaii though i'm not down with the PBL program John A Burns have but since many schools would be adopting the program well... I just think the PBL program is crap. The schools are more interested in research than teaching the students so we teach ourselves and do lots more research on our own. I'm not lazy in fact i am hard working but what is the essence of paying huge amount of money to lecture one another?
This weekend was most productive, though i missed TV for 2 days plus no internet connection, i actually thot i would die but guess i'm still alive! Wondering if I am really a premed student? Man, you gatta be well rounded, its not about stydying studying studying! Its a little bit of everything. Community service (volunteer) Extracurricular activities, TV, party, music, everything plus a GPA of less than 4.0 (Med School wants well rounded and you cant prove that with a 4.0) So we had a major make-over at home, everything is brand new! and we did all the moving ourselves. Awesome! First sunday we missed church but we had a mini service at home.
Brian Wahl is throwing a xmas party for us international students in HPU today so i decided to dress like an African that I am, i plan to take pixtures today so its coming soon...
Finally, respect to the Wright Brothers for your accomplishment 100 years ago. (its been two weeks now) You're my Heroes, expect to hear news of my achievements soon. *Gossip* She probably doesn't want me to spread this news but my friend is quenching for Nelly. Hahaha... Mele Kalikimaka! Have a safe one.
    Politics!
I really dont care about politics because it drives me nuts and i dont have enough patience but whats really interesting is the issue with Saddam's capture, about two weeks ago, Bush had visited the troops in Iraq (that scored him some points!) ok now Saddam is captured (yet more points!)even though we still haven't heard anything about the weapons of mass destruction, Bush (as it looks) is ahead of the democrats with many points, they have to really work out a strategy to get even with pres. Bush.
So how do the Iraqis feel with Saddam's capture? i bet its the same way every Nigerians (well almost all) felt when Abacha died. it was a mixture of all kinds of emotion and feelings. It was a day of libration.
Alright, lets talk about the parties.
Friday night was fantastic, the party was at ko'olua Golf club at Kaneohe and it was J1 chrismas party of my uncle's work place. It was so much fun we had plenty of fun and games, we won many prize including interisland roundtrip ticket for 2. Yeah i took pictures which i will be posting soon.

Saturday was also... my gosh! I went to the party with a mindset of having fun and i did, its was my church family xmas party and of course other people were present, i was embarrased when santa called me for a gift. Normally that was for the kids but somehow my name got called, so i took a picture sitting on santa's laps! it was funny.

So i was finally getting some sleep after all the parties from the day before when the phone rang. I'm thinking the call is from Nigeria but i was like Hello? Hello? and the phone went dead! Now that was annoying, i mean i haven't had much sleep in the past days and when i am finally getting some rest the phone rang only to go dead! I suspect this could be some kinda pranks from one of my friends but please i must confess you got me. I know i like to be mischievious and stuff but that was bad timing.

    Summary of Fall 2003
Well, the semester has come and gone! I've glad it was ok generally, i made new friends from all over and stayed in touch as much as i could with old pals. Classes became alittle stressful towards the mid-semester but i scaled thru praise God, Working at the FSC was ok generally. My goal for this semester was to do as much as i can do and make a difference, i think i did that. I had some set backs but its ok because it means good news is on its way! I'm not taking any winter classes but i plan to enrol in some classes outside HPU like i did last summer to get my CNA/Health care Tech diplomer. But this time to prepare for my upcoming MCAT exam. I might be volunteering at Queens again for HPU credit during the break, it was fun volunteering at the Neuro-Med surg dept. last summer and i learnt a lot and met influencial people. Thats pretty much it and of course Have some fun!
    Thursday 12/11/03
Finaly, the final is come and gone! I had the final final today and guess where? GB at the Aloha Towel Marketplace. It was fun.

I've been so sick this week, I had the flu and lost my voice, but yeah i was pretty generous with it, remember sharing is caring? some of my friends have it now. Here is the goodie, Exam is pau! and a cool consolation for all this week's got for me is...Party! Its party time! Friday? Party party party, till mom's call. Saturday? more partying Details to follow later.
For all of you who know my dad to be very funny you just might wanna stay tuned to my website cos he's going to be signing my guestbook pretty soon. Lets see what he's got to say to his baby gurl. BTW Mahalo to Ben for signing in Olelo Hawai'i and all of you who's signed the guestbook, i see there's a error completing the sentences but i promise to do something to it as soon as i find a remedy.
On a second thot, i'm planning to add a surfing class to my list of classes for next semester, i think it would be a good balance to my heavy workload for Spring '04.
    Monday 12/08/03
My exams started today, one down (organic chemistry) four more to go, its going to last till the end of this week so bear with me if i dont update. BTW thanks y'all for signing my guestbook, i appreciate your comments.
    *Thurday 12/4/03 12:10am*
Horray!!! finally the day is here. 20 years ago mum put to bed a bouncing baby, "its a girl" the doctor yelled. I'm never gonna be a teenager anymore forget whatever Yetunde means. Its only about 10 mins into my day and i am already getting calls. So far 3 calls, and 2 presents...actually not bad. Well stay tuned for update of the rest of the day. I know its going to be a wonderful day. Lord I am grateful for today.
12 hours later, my boss frightened me saying i got into trouble that i wanted to be seen in the Dean's office, (i was thinking... not today) anyway i went it and guest what? it was a surprise! Happy Birthday was the song i heard instead of scolding. (that was pretty cool) As if that was not enough, my uncle had planned with my thursday night instructor to bring me to this resturant, it was meant to be a surprise...
    Thanksgiving Day '03
I had so much fun, we were invited to my uncle's collegue's house, i eat too much turkey, i could bearly move (very unladylike) unfortunately we didn't take pixtures, the kids decided to spend the night at their house, so it was only my uncle, aunty and I at home, it was kinda quite, i missed them but for me i think its a good night to make babies!
At 3 a.m. my bestest friend (Sewa Onajobi) called me from Nigeria, oh my, i have not heard from her in 3 1/2 years we graduated from high school. She is the funniest girl i have ever met, she makes up jokes (I'm talking very funny jokes). Let me tell you how funny: After the holiday some few years ago, i told her this funny incident that happend in my house between my sisters and I, this incident was so funny we laughed for about 45 mins. So one day, midway into the semester while we were in class, she came to my sit and was like "Yetunde, Yetunde, i have a joke to tell you my "cousin" told me" I was like "oh yeah yeah yeah, i wanna listen" cos i know her jokes are always so funny. So she started to tell me this joke and it so happened it was the incident i told her had happened in my house but ofcourse editted a bit. I was so stunned, dont get me wrong the joke was funny for many different reasons, 1. it was my joke, 2. she editted it to a funnier joke, 3. she is retelling me this same story claiming her "cousin" told her. Anyway i said "are you sure your "cousin" told you this one joke?" she remembered and apologies but also confessed that any joke she says her "cousin" tells her are made up jokes. I thot that was kinda cool and funny. She had told us several jokes before citing her "cousin" as the source i guess she just didn't want to plagiarize!
    Sunday (11/23/03)
Church service was awesome today, We had John Bevere minister into our lifes. Check out is website at John Bevere Ministries, Talk about an awesome minister of God, he's the Man!
    Monday (11/17/03)

I might change my mind before the semester starts although the class is closed but i can still get in if someone drops the class (someone always does) but we'll see.
    Thursday-Saturday [11/(13-15)/03]
Went for this wonderful life changing encounter. I am a new creature!
My name is Yetunde A. Akinola. I am from Nigeria as some Nigerians out there must have guessed.

I am currently a junior at Hawaii Pacific University majoring in Pre-medical studies. I plan to go to some Med-School on the mainland by fall 2005. I dont know which one yet but I'm being careful with my choosing.

To some people, i am very active, cool, jovial, caring, funny, simple while others may think i am just there well the truth is that i'm me. People have different opinions and you are entitled to your opinion.

Anyway I am pretty ambitious and goal oriented, sometimes i am too serious and other times i hang loose. Spring 2003 is over now and I'm still taking it easy
