. Joe Carmody..Life Member of the YN club awarded in 1975. Joe's Full Story Here In 1955 Joe replaced Vic Gus as President of Yallourn Athletic Club.(a position he still holds today) In 1957 he became president of the Latrobe Valley Athletic Association, a position he held until 1971. Over the years he gained a reputation of being one of Victorias if not the countries top athletic coaches. His coaching style has evolved during a career spanning over 50 years. Joe has coached over 30 National Titles and three olympians. Joe has received numurous awards for his commitment to local sport. In 2000 he was awarded an Australian Sports Medal for services to the athletic community. In 2001 at a ceremony at the country Championships in Bendigo Joe received his life membership of Athletics Victoria.
Amy McLellan..Life Member of the YN club awarded in 1975. Amy was a Scottish national sprint and long jump champion who immergrated to Australia and settled in Newborough with husband Duncan forming the Newborough Club in 1949. Amy was the first secretary of the newly merged Yallourn Newborough Athletic Club in 1965. It was well known she was the backbone to the early running of the YN club. She was a tireless worker for athletics in the district and heavily involved in the former Victorian Womens Amateur Athletics Association.
Vern Collings..Life Member of the YN club awarded in 1995. Vern joined the Yallourn Newborough Athletic Club in 1978. He served as Secretary of the club from 1982-2001. For over 30 years Vern was a dedicated representative of the Latrobe Valley Athletic region.Vern acted as a starter marshall at most A.V championships. In 2000 Vern was selected as technical official for the Sydney Olympics. Vern received life membership of Athletics Victoria in 2001.
