I will not pretend that this activity actually 'teaches'
anything, but it is certainly one of the most fun things I've done.
I used it with adults at a Teacher-Training Seminar, but it might be
feasible at elementary school or elsewhere. Everyone really enjoyed
it and everyone got involved. Explanation and 5 displays took about
20 minutes.

Split the class into groups. Around 8 people per
group would work well, so for a class of 40, 5 groups or 8. |
 |
Each group must arrange themselves in a particular way
to 'display' certain ideas. Every member of the group must be
included. Only bodies may be used (no props). |
 |
After preparation time (c.1 minute), each group must
'display' themselves, without moving and without speaking. |
 |
Judge and award points: 5 points to best group;
4 to next best...1 point to worst. I awarded big points to the
more creative displays. Make ideas to display get
progressively harder and the preparation time perhaps longer.
I awarded 'double points' for the last one (Jungle) and the crowd
went crazy. (Hmmmm) |

Draw an example for 'Forest' on the board to help
clarify task |
