Chapter One

Meet Melanie, the First of Three

It had been awhile since the gang had visited the duelist kingdom. Tea and Tristan started to date, Joey had been improving his duelist skills, Bakura was just hanging by himself, and Kaiba had been burring himself in work. But as for Yugi, he and been thinking about others things. Most of the time he would stare at his millennium item and wonder what the story was about Yami and the other items, why they were created, why they existed, not to mention he had Malik to deal. There must be a good reason for why they were created Yugi kept thinking over and over again, but his thoughts were interrupted when he heard the door to his grandpa’s shop ring. Yugi looked up, “ yes can I help you?”

He saw that the person at the door was a girl, a pretty one too. She looked to be his age, but was taller then him. She had brown colored eyes and blood colored hair, she was wearing a long sleeved black-buttoned shirt, blood colored skirt, and a small black boots. “ Yes,” the girl said sweetly, “ I’m looking for Yugi Muto.” “ I’m Yugi,” Yugi said cautiously, “ why, do you need help with something?” “ Yes, actually,” she said as she walked up toward the counter, “ I need your help in the search for what happens to deal with your millennium item.” “ WHAT!” he shouted as he stepped back, her eyes widened as she shook her hand, “ oh no, don’t worry, I’m not collecting them, I just need you help with finding the person who was one of the reasons they were created.” Yugi just stared at her, “ you mean, you don’t want my millennium item?” she shook her head slowly, “ no, I just want your help finding someone that the soul in your item might know where to find.”

Yugi still wasn’t sure if he could trust her, but she seemed nice enough, “ alright, I’ll try, but I still don’t really believe you,” she just smiled, “ that’s alright, if it were me, I wouldn’t believe it either.” Yugi lead her to the back of the shop to sit in the living room, though still looking at her from the corner of his eye so she wouldn’t be able to surprise him. As he opened the door, she walked over and sat on the couch, “ would you like some tea?” he asked nicely, even though he didn’t really trust her, he knew he should at least be polite. “No thank you,” she said kindly, “ I don’t believe I introduced myself, the names Melanie, Melanie Scott.” “ Nice to meet you Melanie, so what were saying about my millennium item?” “ ah, yes,” she said as she folded her hands over one another, “ well, first of all, I think you should let Yami talk.” “ Wait how do you know about Yami?” Yugi yelped out, “ trust me, just do it,” Melanie implied, just before she watched Yugi transform.

After the big flash, there stood Yugi with Yami’s soul. “ Alright,” Yami said with his deep voice in a demanding way, “ what did you want to talk to me about?” Melanie gave a little giggle and then sighed, “ you haven’t changed a bit Yami, still wanting be ahead of everyone else.” “ What,” he replied, Melanie just shook her head and smiled, “ how do you know me?” Yami demanded, “ I know you because I used to know you when you were the pharaoh of Egypt!” Yami’s eyes widened.

“ It was a millennium ago,” she started off as her eyes went cold, “ you were one of two great pharaohs of Egypt, you were the ruler of Upper Egypt, while the other ruled Lower Egypt.” Yami just stared and listened, “ One day, you were to challenge the pharaoh of Lower Egypt to a duel, but something went wrong,” “ what?” Yami asked with anxiety yet still keeping his cool. “ Well, it is custom for the duelers to wear a cape so that they wont see each others faces, so not to throw their guard of with ridiculous things, but during the match, you sent a huge blow toward the Lower pharaohs monster,” “ and what’s wrong with that?” Yami interrupted. Melanie breathed deeply, “ the blow sent a gust of wind sending the Lower pharaohs hood off, showing the pharaohs face,” “ so…” Yami asked, Melanie took in another deep breath, “ well, the problem was that what you didn’t know was that the Lower pharaoh was a woman…” “ what!” Yami exclaimed. “ Yes,” Melanie replied, “ her name was Umi, great pharaoh Umi, you didn’t know that Lower Egypt was ruled by a female.”

“ What happened next?” Yami asked as he started to settle down, Melanie closed her eyes with worry, “ When you saw her, you took of your hood to so that the game would be fair,” “ I don’t understand, what was so wrong with that?” Melanie opened her eyes and stared at Yami, “ you fore-fitted!” Yami’s eyes widened, “ why?” “ Well, you…you…” Yami kept his eyes on her, “ I what?” Melanie started to choke up, “ I’m sorry, I can’t tell you yet, you have to wait.” Yami wouldn’t fight with her, “ but that still doesn’t explain how you know me,” Melanie smiled, “ I know you because I was a good friend of Umi, you two spent a lot of time together, so I saw you very often.”

“ So what did you need me for?” Melanie gave Yami a serious look, “ well, just like your soul, hers was trapped within a millennium item,” “ which one?” Yami asked, Melanie shook her head, “ I don’t know, but its known as the seventh millennium item.” “ How do we find her?” Melanie took in a big breath, “ there’s only one way to find her…” Melanie continued,” is to find the three protectors of the pharaoh, I am one of them, so we need to find the other two and fast,” “ why?” Yami asked, “ Malik is also looking for Umi as well, if he gets his hands on the other two and me, he’ll use us to find her, and who knows what he’ll do with her.” Yami got concerned, “ how do we find them?” “ I’m not sure, all I know is that they were the pharaohs close friends, they only thing I know is that they are two girls our age, but luckily they’ll come to us.”

Yami was still was a bit shaken up by hearing this, but he could tell she was telling the truth, he was hoping that if he stoke with her, maybe he would learn more about his past. He slowly stood up and smiled at Melanie, “ alright, I’ll help you,” Melanie stood up and smiled, “ yes, with you helping I know we’ll find them, but first,” she exclaimed as she ran over and grabbed his hand, “ you have to introduce your friends to me.” She started to pull Yami out of the living room and through the door.
