The Wrong Conclusions Part 3

Paul laid back on the bed, sighing heavily, " not really, it wasn’t even her fault".
" Did you kiss her?".
"No, we were about to, but then her sister came out to tell her to get inside".
" What? She has to listen to her sister" Steve laughed, " geez that’s sad".
He rolled over onto his side, " no, she was listening to her mom, who, like any other mom, is probably the boss of the house. I still would listen to my mom like that when I was eighteen". Steve froze, his jaw hung, " she’s only eighteen?".
Paul nodded, " I thought she only looked like she was".
" How did you score an eighteen-year-old?" he laughed.
"I didn’t score her, whatever you mean by that, we just went out for coffee".
" Yeah, but you almost kissed her. Almost kissed her, talking about her in your sleep, stuttering whenever someone talks about her".
" I don’t stutter".
"Yeah, sure ya don’t".
" Okay, maybe I do, its just a habit, and she could have easily tried to kiss me, we were both about to do it".
" But who made the first move?" Steve sat on his own bed, staring across at Paul.
" Maybe it was me, I wasn’t really paying attention to that".
" So that’s how you two left it? Just like that, almost on a kiss but then you got interrupted". He nodded. " Then you have to see her again".
"For some reason, I don’t want to know why".
" Because, she knew that you must have been feeling the same way if you almost tried to kiss her, and then since you never did, ignoring Kelly will just make her think that you didn’t like her, it'll break her heart".
"You really think that’s the truth?".
" I may not be Mr. Right to anyone, but that’s what I know".
He sat up, " I never thought I may be saying this but, what do you think I should do?".
" GO AND SEE HER DUDE!" he yelled, " its not that hard, go late tomorrow night, she'll be at the night club, if you go near closing time, nobody will be there".
" Yeah, maybe even her".
Steve shook his head, " no, she closes it up every night she works, please, she wasn’t just there because she hit you".
" Are you sure?".
" Yes, no interruptions, you can tell her how you really feel, trust me, it can bend any broken heart".
He agreed with Steve, though he wasn’t to sure why. He drifted off to sleep soon after, right where he was. There he was, again in the nightclub. He only saw her back at first, she turned to face him when he touched her shoulder. She smiled,
" oh, I’m glad your here" her voice was so cheerful. Paul never saw his face, only heard the words " this is my boyfriend" as the room began to spin.
He was feeling lightheaded, his balance became weak. He woke up in a cold sweat, the alarm clock on the nighttable between the two beds told that it was almost four in the morning. Steve was still asleep, he regained his breath, repeating over and over,
" it was just a dream, it was just a dream, she would have told me". He fell back into a deep, dreamless, sleep.
A sudden stir woke him slowly. The sun was shining throughout the room, Steve wasn’t there.
" Dammit!" he yelled. It was almost three in the afternoon, he had slept right through morning, at least he was at the right day.
Within ten minutes, he had showered and dressed, and was running down the sidewalk to the set where he knew Steve had to be.
The crew members were giggling as he entered the building.
" You told them!" he yelled at Steve the moment he saw him.
" Told them what?" he was shocked to see Paul so angry.
" About the whole screwing up with Kelly thing, I cant believe you did that, I thought that stuff was only between you and me!".
" Will you just calm down, they’re laughing because your two-and-a-half hours late, you wouldn’t move this morning when the alarm went off and I figured that you would need the sleep".
Paul but at his bottom lip, " oh, I’m sorry".
" Hey, its okay, you're just flipping out about tonight".
He agreed, never taking his mind off it for a second or less. It was almost midnight. Steve and Paul stood in room. Paul was almost scared out of hid mind.
" Don’t you chicken out now".
" I’m not, I’m not, what good would that do anyone".
Steve handed him his coat, " you got those note cards I wrote you on what to say to her?". He shook his head and opened the door,
" no offense, I think I'll just say what comes to mind, got a better chance that way". Paul felt as though he was walking on air as he approached the club.
Steve was right, there was no music, it was closing time. His hand was shaking as he pulled the silver handle, good, it was locked yet.
He walked in, every detail of the main room was new to him, he had never seen anything the other night but Kelly. Everything else was only a blur, and it wasn’t as hard to admit that anymore. Kelly was cleaning near the stage, where they had first met, muttering angrily to herself on what had happened and how much she hated her conclusion, but knew that it was for the best.
" Kelly" he said, he was three feet behind her. His heart broke in two when she turned around. Seeing her red-stained eyes filled with tears. And, it was all his fault.
She whispered his name, only causing her to cry more. Taking hold of her wrist, he pulled her closer into a hug. Kelly rested her head just below his shoulder.
" I'm sorry" she choked.
" What? There’s nothing to be sorry for, you didn’t do anything".
She backed off from the hug, but still holding his hand in hers, " you might want to hear me out first. I’m sorry, I know why you came here, it was about the other night, right?" she wiped her cheek with her hand.
" Yeah, just with what happened, and that..." he began to stutter. Stop it! he snapped at himself, just say it, just say it, will you., " and that, I really like you".
She was stunned, " no you don’t" she grumbled, getting back to her cleaning, " you don’t mean that".
He took a step closer to the stage, " you're right, that’s not what I meant to say, what I meant to say was that I’m falling in love with you".
Kelly stopped and stared, her eyes were pale and wide,
" and that is what I meant so say". Kelly took a step closer.
