Rider Strong here, WFW reporter turned CBW intern turned YOH lackey. In recent memories, I can think of a few great people to come through Yard of Honor, and the memorible feuds and the mark they left here in Winnipeg's finest Backyard Wrestling promotion. But in 2004, a VCW wrestler and the man whos matches I used to call in WFW/CBW, came to YOH looking for new talent. And he found it in Prototype, turned Kyle Ryan. Fast forward to March Break of 2005, when the unthinkable happened; lightning in fact struck twice. Mercury returned to YOH, this time with OCW comrades and bunk buddies Ryan Rage and Tiger J, for the dreaded rematch against Kyle Ryan. The two put on arguabley one of the best matches of the year, if not in recent YOH memory. I had a chance to sit down with Mercury to see what his thoughts are on YOH coming to Backyard Fest 8, a third strike on YOH soil, and Kyle Ryan. Here's what he had to say.

RS: Thank you Mercury for taking your time out of your busy schedule for this interview.
Mercury: Not a problem. I've been out of work ever since California put a halt
on all the porn movies.

RS: I see. Well, first off you have beef with Kyle Ryan. What's up?
Merc: Simple. I don't like him. And unlike most feuds where guys hate each other, but still respect each other, it's not even like that with Kyle. I despise him and the Winnipeg ground he walks on, for one reason. He calls himself a wrestler. Look at him, he bumps on the ground for Christ sake. But I guess it's a step up from Iowa's TCW who wrestles on a trampoline *laughs*

RS: There's no love lost between you and Kyle. When you returned to VCW, you seem to have improved, especially since the turn of the calendar going into '05. Have you had a chance to see any of Kyle Ryan's work between your YOH visits?
Merc: I won't lie, I saw almost all the YOH media I could get my hands on. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer. I saw the way he worked; I saw his tactics. He and Chronic Kid had an amazing match in October '04 I believe. That only encouraged me to train harder, smoke more weed, and get better.

RS: Smoke, more weed? I'm confused.
Merc: And I'm baked.

RS: Interesting. Speaking of Chronic Kid, he will be attending Backyard Fest 8 with Kyle Ryan. And yet you've only tangled with Chronic Kid an amazing total of one times in a "lost match" Triple Threat on your first visit. Any thoughts on that?
Merc: Chronic Kid is a helluva athlete, I'll give him that. But the man is baked 24/7. When I wrestled him, we tied up, and he said "Dude, I'm so high". It was like working Rob Van Dam. I remember very distinctly when I whipped him into the ropes, he came back not running, but walking, with a total dazed look on his face. It was like he was trippin' out on the sunny May day. A total disgrace to wrestling. But I'm a huge fan of his work, don't get me wrong.

RS: Do you plan on working with him while he's down in VCW for the week in July?
Merc: I'd love to. I just hope he hasen't moved on to hard drugs. There'd be nothing worse than wrestling a guy who just took like 8 tabs of acid. That'd suck.

RS: Speaking of 8 tabs of acid, that reminds me again - Kyle Ryan and Chronic Kid will be competing in a YOH exhibition match at the Canada Day Massacre making their VCW debut. It will also be the 2 year anniversary of you wrestling for VCW. What do you have to say about that?
Merc: I'll have what he's having.

RS: Huh?
Merc:...Try the veal.

RS: ...
Merc: I'm here all week.

RS: For YOH, this is Rider Strong, signing off.
