 One of the best
multiplayer and party games for the N64 now has a sequel,
Mario Party 2. This multiplayer-oriented game contains
everything that made the first Mario Party great, while
adding new boards to play on and a whopping 64 all new
mini-games to thrash three other players in. This all
adds to Mario Party 2 having the same gameplay that made
Mario Party great, with an updated look, new storyline,
and more mini-games to party with.
Mario Party 2 is basically a board game at its core,
where players roll a dice and move around the board.
Various things can then happen to a player depending on
what they land on. All this is spiced up though with the
mini-games, where players can battle it out and better
their chance of winning as well as hurting others. With a
huge amount of mini-games, there is always something
different to do and skill to test out. Mario Party 2 also
contains the different types of games like in Mario
Party, with the 4-player games as well as 2 on 2, 3 on 1,
and single player games.
In one game players drive cars around a big arena, with a
balloon on the back and spikes on the front. The idea is
to pop the opponent's balloon. Another game has players
pairing off and playing a sort of pong-style game where
the object is to get the ball, or shell in this case,
into the other players goal. Yet another has the one
player at an archery range taking shots at the others.
All of these varied and fun mini-games add up to a great
multiplayer game.
Graphically, Mario
Party 2 looks almost the same as the first. The boards
have been changed with different themeing such as outer
space or a western theme that add to new look. The boards
are also bigger and have new places to explore. The basic
concept still remains of collecting coins and stars, with
some new items added like keys to get through certian
doors and to access different areas on the board.
Characters also wear costumes depending on which board
they are playing such as cowboy hats.
Take Mario Party, add some new boards, a new
storyline, 64 all-new mini-games, and Bowser who now now
takes part in the player rounds, and you have Mario Party
2. All of this adds up to make one great multiplayer
game, that is not just a rehash of the original. Mario
Party 2 looks to recapture the party atmosphere of the
first, with great simplistic gameplay, along with loads
of mini-games to duke it out in.
