Some
details on how to support your riders Read the below to get up to speed on matters regarding support vehicles, drivers, meals and night riding Remember, bikes have to be pulled out every time a rider has to change. Minbuses can double up as a temporary bed, and when the back flap is lifted, it acts as a verandah. A team of 8 riders with 3 support crew require no more than 2 support vehicles. The following are not allowed. : Large buses of more than 18 seats, caravans, trucks greater than one tonne, trailers greater than 5' by 10' Bike racks that can fit on a tow bar can often be borrowed. These can take 2-3 bikes. Small trailers can be used and an A frame apparatus in the trailer allows a number of bikes to be carried very compactly and safely, keeping the width of the trailer to a minimum. Drivers should be able to double as cooks to save room in vehicles. Many teams purchase food en route to save room in the vehicles. Gas BBqs are handy to heat up meals such as stew, pasta and creamed rice. This type of food is taken every third changeover. Thrmos pots should be kept topped up with hot water for warm drinks. Good in between snacks consist of sandwitches, fruit (especially bananas) high energy foods, fruit bars, cake etc Keep well hydrated, especially if conditions are warm. If you have something to eat before your ride, eat lightly and don't start too hard. Settle in before pushing the pace. If you have riders riding for longer distances, they should take their own food. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PASS FOOD TO RIDERS FROM A MOVING VEHICLE. THIS IS EXTREEMLY DANGEROUS AND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED BY THE AUTHORITIES. When a hot feed is required, the riders about to ride should get fed before the changeover and the on road riders get a feed wen they get off. TRY TO KEEP A RIDER ON THE ROAD AT ALL TIMES. Support vehicles should travel far enough back so that drives can stop in time if necessary. Etc TBD . Check out the official Murray To Moyne Website www.murraytomoyne.com.au .
