Pets and dogs are often the cause of unease and ill feelings towards neighbours and Nepean Park is not immune to these effects. Earlier in the year roaming dogs, thought to belong to owners in Nepean Park, have been seen wandering the estate. During the same period pets, including guinea pigs, a cat and chooks have also been killed. Additionally, dogs barking for hours on end without owner intervention, even though they are home, can also generate ill will amongst neighbours. Although the executive committee can not do anything to prevent these unfortunate occurrences, people effected can contact the council to assist with resolution. The council has broad powers under the Companion Animal Act and can take action against owners who ignore their responsibilities under the same Act.
On the same note residents are reminded that Nepean Park by-laws limit the number of dogs to two per allotment.
The people who have dismantled the fencing in the sewage treatment plant bunding and insist on riding bikes in the bunded area, be aware that in the past the sewage treatment plant has over flowed into the bunding on several occasions. While best efforts where made to clean up the site we are dealing with porous soil and no guarantees can be made as to whether the area is pathogen free or not. The advice therefore is to keep out.
Residents are also advised that kangaroo shooters have been seen late at night, or early in the morning, in Nepean Park. These shooters appeared to be armed and prepared to shoot at kangaroos in a residential area. Residents are advised to alert police.
Thanks to the restraint shown by most residents the recycled water has held out. The rain over recent weeks has also provided some respite and it is great to see all of Nepean Park green up again. However, the Committee requests restraint over summer so that everybody has access to recycled water for their plants.
ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS ASKED BY RESIDENTS
The significant ones are listed below.Executive Committee
Fences have now been installed around the dams identified by the insurers. Nepean Park is now fully covered again. The fenced are not intended to prevent activities beside the dams, but rather limit access so that young children can not easily get close to the water when unaccompanied.
Occasionally the Executive Committee receives anonymous letters for publishing in the newsletter. The Committee's view on these items is that they will not be published. Authors are invited to attend committee meetings to express their views and table documents for review and publishing.
