.....Behold, thy Lord said to the angels."I will create a vicegerent on earth" [Qur'an 2:30].....

All you ever wanted to know (and more) about the scientific miracle of the Qur'an

This site is about Islam and Science. Many Muslims have made the claim that scientific facts have been reviled in the Qur'an over a thousand years before modern science discovered them. Is that true? This site aims to find out!

"I believe that the extraordinary should be pursued. But extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." - Dr. Carl Sagan

"All ours science, measured against reality, is primitive and childlike - and yet it is the most precious thing we have" Prof. Albert Einstein

The above quotes really sums up the motivation behind this site. Muslims have made extraordinary claims that go against science. The claims should be investigated in a scientific way and need to be supported by extraordinary evidence. The investigation of those claims is the subject of this site. The methodology that is used to investigate the scientific claims is what can be called the "scientific method" or a "skeptical approach", that is logical, deductive reasoning. Basically it follows the following steps:

1. Evidence To begin with we need evidence. To investigate the clams of Muslims we not only need to look at what the Qur'an says and what science says but also to look at other relevant evidence. Other relevant evidence includes ancient historical documents as well as mythology and other religions. We need to look at not only what is claimed but also what was known.

2. Explanations For each piece of evidence we need to find an explanation that can say why is that so. As many explains as can be found. Usually for anyone piece of evidence there are multiple explanations.

3. Conclusion When we have our different explanations we need to look for one explanation that can explain all the evidence. It some times happens that no one explanation can explain all the evidence. In which case the explain that best fits the data is used. It can also happen that more than one explanation can explain all the evidence. In that case, the simplest explanation is used as it is the one that is most likely to be correct.

4. Checking Once the conclusions have been draw we don't stop there! We need to continually search out new evidence. This can be done by experimentation or but investigation, such as a new archaeological dig. The idea is always to disprove the conclusions. If the evidence supports our conclusion then we gain confidence in its correctness. If the evidence does not, then we need to evaluate it and alter our conclusions to fit the evidence (not alter the evidence to fit the conclusions).

The Use of Logic

Is logic an appropriate tool to use for evaluating Islam?

Logic is the art of avoiding contradictions. If you want to avoid maintaining contradictory positions in evaluating Islam then logic is an appropriate tool to use.
