After the debacle that was Veterans Stadium, Steve and Jeff were extremely happy to visit a real baseball park. Their plan to revisit Camden Yards not only increased their baseball total by 100% for the day, it also helped them get The Vet out of their system. Of course, despite the upgrade in venue, they couldn't expect an improvement in game quality. Could they?

Well, they didn't expect it. But they did get it. The O's and Sox put together some solid starting pitching, excellent bullpen work, and late inning heroics. The result: A thrilling 14 inning 4-3 Oriole victory. The much maligned Brook Fordyce knocked in the winning run with a single after Jeff and Steve's new favorite player, Howie "Hit 'N' Run" Clark, was unable to hit the game-winning homer his new fans so desired.

Backup catcher Brook Fordyce drove in the winning run for the O's a few minutes after midnight in the bottom of the 14th inning.

Again, the Oriole fans proved to be a spirited bunch, with many of the most dedicated fans (and Steve and Jeff) sneaking down to field level to make their voices heard.

Not all of the fans managed to stay awake (see left), but those who did got one heck of a show. They truly deserved this reward: The fourteenth inning stretch was just as roused as the seventh inning stretch, and they cheered each pitch as if the game had just started.

Maybe it was just the culture shock of visiting this beauty after that beast, but our heroes' perception of OP at CY improved, too. Most likely, it was the location change: from just beyond the right-centerfield wall to high behind home plate, with an outstanding view of all that makes this park so wonderful.

Sure, all of this added up to a late night - they wouldn't get to sleep until sometime after 1 AM (waffleless, this time) but there were no complaints.

Howie Clark, batting .450 in 20 AB this season.
"HOW-IE! HOW-IE! HOW-IE!"

More Howie Clark! Hit-and-run, high socks, named "Howie";
how can you not love this guy?
