Two Dazers were travelling down the South Superhighway. Jeff Bedia and I were going to his house after a prayer meeting. Our group was always looking for means of spiritual enrichment through retreats and the like aside from our weekly Cenacle prayers. Thus, our conversation focused on our most life-changing experience: the Days. We reminisced about the tears, the songs, the laughter, and the prayers. Definitely through Divine Inspiration, upon arriving at his doorstep, plans were taking shape in setting up a Yuppie Days with the Lord.
Our first participants would be those in our prayer group. But, we would be open to requests from other friends, as well. The dilemma was in presenting the Days through a high school/college format because all our staffers would have that background. But, because in Jess we trust, we moved forward.
May 23-25, 1997 was the start of something very special. And after the usual debates about what community style to use, the weekend gave birth to its first eight Yuppie Dazers. A new Days community came into existence.
But, this was a Yuppie Days with the Lord community and nothing like this had ever been done. With the help of Lino Rivera, changes were made in the schedule to be more yuppie-friendly. The Fantasy was updated to the Lifeline Fantasy. Some talks were taken out and topics were tailor-made for yuppie concerns. Five months after, ydwtl@2 happened with the improvements in place.
Succeeding batches have made adjustments here and there, but the essence of Days remains the same. From being a supposedly one-shot deal, we will have gone through eight batches by the time this book is completed. One never knows what Jess has in store.
History is always rewritten and Days is no exception. Other Dazers may relate different versions, but the point is Yuppie Days is here and it looks like it’s going to be around for quite a while.
