PowerPoint Project Hints                        Home

I will be moving all resources we have used to the website below.

http://au.oocities.com/year7blue2003/index.htm

When this happens, you will not be able to open the email site we used in class, but you need to send your project there.

This address is year7blue2003@yahoo.com.au

You can revise what we have done in class using the site below.

 www.olmc.nsw.edu.au/Powerpoint%20Presentation.ppt

Be very careful to keep this presentation small as computing can take a lot of time for even simple things.

Do not use Clipart.  You must use original graphics ie. Paint or else you can animate text.

The project must have at least one example of each of the following-

ÿ Insert text.

ÿ Insert Word Art

ÿ 2 types of animation.

ÿ Insert sound.

ÿ A hyperlink.

ÿ Notes.

ÿ Slide transition.

ÿ Inserting an original graphic from Paint.

ÿ A brief explanation of the purpose of your presentation, your intended audience and your self evaluation/ improvements you would make with more time.

ÿ Insert a background.

ÿ Bullet points

¿1 When you finish your PowerPoint presentation, you will need to send it. If you do it at home, use your own email address. Go to compose. The address is year7blue2003@yahoo.com.au

¿2 Put your name in the subject bar eg. John Young’s PowerPoint presentation.

¿3 Click on attach files. Browse for your PowerPoint file and follow the instructions to attach it. Then send. You will later present your work to the class.

Hints

Here are some very basic hints. The main one is "don’t panic." Try a few things. If they don’t work, use the "help" tab up the top; ask a person who may be able to help; check the website I have provided at the top of this page; or use a search engine. Be a problem solver.

PowerPoint is found on the Start menu (bottom left of screen usually), Programs. Save your work regularly.

Insert text

Click Insert textbox. You must type something in the box or it disappears.

Insert Word Art

Click Insert, Picture, Word Art

Inserting an original graphic from Paint.

Go to the Start menu, Programs, Accessories, Paint. Draw a picture and save it.

If you use Paint, you can edit the image in PowerPoint. Go to PowerPoint. Insert your Image by clicking on Insert, Picture, From File and find your Paint file. To edit, highlight your image and click on View, Toolbars, Picture. This toolbar allows you to crop, rotate and edit your image. There are other toolbars around the screen and available for the View tab. Images can also be shifted and resized using the handles on the outside.

Animation

Click Side Show, Custom animation. Then use the box on the right for more options.

Slide transition

Click Slide Show, Slide transition. Then use the box on the right for more options.

Insert Sound

This can be tricky. Not all files work in PowerPoint. Files ending "wav" usually work. If you use files from the Internet they may be difficult to insert. Try right clicking if all else fails. You may need to suit the length of your sound file to the timing of your animation.

The basic steps are clicking Insert, Movies and Sounds and then the option you will use.

A hyperlink

You need to have a slide with where you wish the hyperlink to start and another one with where you wish it to go. Highlight the text or graphic you wish to hyperlink, click on Insert hyperlink, Place in This Document, which is on the left, then in the box called Select a Place in the document, highlight the slide you want to jump to.

Notes

Click on View then Notes Page. You must click under the slide and the text box will appear. Than you can start typing.

Insert a Background

Click Format , background

Bullet Points

Sometimes these are already visible above your page. If not, click on the quotation marks on the top right of your screen under the X symbol. The other option is to highlight what you want in bullet point. Then click Format, Bullets and Numbering.

This is a very, very basic guide. You can do lots more than this by trying different options and exploring the various tabs and shortcuts. If something won’t work, do not spend too much time on it. Either use another idea or seek help. Computers should be fun.
