Jake, Marco, Tobias, Rachel, and Cassie are walking home from the mall together at night. They decide to take a short-cut, through an abandoned construction site, to get home faster. On the way through the site they see a ship fall from the air and crash. They check the ship out and find a dying Andalite stuggling out of the "front door" of the ship. The Andalite (Elfangor) tells Jake to fetch a glowing blue box out of his ship. Elfangor tells them to touch the box (Escalif Device). Afterwhich they are able to aquire and morph any animal they can touch. V3 comes and morphs an Antarean Bogg and murders/eats Elfangor. The Animorphs escape, Tobias morphs his cat (Dude) and Jake morphs his dog (Homer). They go to the Gardens and aquire bigger animals. Jake a Siberian tiger, Marco a 400lb gorilla, Cassie a Horse, Tobias a red-tailed hawk, and Rachel an Elephant. They find out Jake's bro Tom is a controller. Marco names them "animal-morphers" or "Animorphs." They invade the Yeerk-pool, V3 morphs an eight- armed, eight-headed, eight-legged dragon-type creature. The Animorphs run, find out Tobias is trapped in Hawk-morph.(a nothlit) Then there's a sample chapter for book #2 and a preview of book #3.
