The Many Faces of our Rescued Equine Friends
On this page, you will see the stories as well as before and after photos of the horses our farm has rescued from situations of abuse, neglect, abandonment and in some cases, extreme starvation. Please take some time to read their stories and look at where they came from when they arrived here at Meadows Edge Farm and where they are today. We have been blessed to have been able to help these beautiful horses, getting to know them and seeing them prosper has been wonderful.
Scooby Doo Blue, Tonka and Aladdin
These three ponies were advertised for sale in Pasco County. We went to see them, hoping to find a suitable pony for a young rider. When we got there, we found them huddled together in a filthy paddock. Their only water was green and chunky. They had no shelter and were not being fed properly. Their hooves and coats were in horrible condition. We made an offer on all three horses and it was accepted so they were brought here to their new home to begin their rehabilitation.

Scooby stayed with us for nearly  two years. He had obviously suffered the most and was very scared of people. A close family friend, Laura, spent countless hours re-training him with the Parelli Natural Horsemanship techniques, the Parelli Seven Games, and also riding him. Just last Summer, Scooby was sold to a wonderful home and is doing very well! Tonka and Aladdin have also been re-homed and are doing well.

Breeze
Breeze is a  rescued 3 y.o. Paint mare. Breeze is a very well bred filly who most likely was bred to be a hunter in the paint shows. She stands 16 h.h and should finish out at 16.2 h.h. Sadly, Breeze has a very severe parrot mouth. She apparently was treated with a dental appliance to help the problem but it was an ineffective treatment because it was not cared for properly and it caused further damage to her mouth. Breeze is now owned by my best friend Laura and she is not only thriving beautifully but she is doing Level 1 and Level 2 in the Parelli Natural Horsemanship program. Laura is looking forward to riding her this Spring.

Casper
Casper is a 15 y.o. Mexican stock horse.  I spent some time re-training him last year. He is an extreme right brain introverted horse with many interesting qualities as well as quirks. Casper is probably the most challenging horse I have ever worked with. He taught me patience I never knew I had! He forced me to work on my horsemanship skills on a daily basis. He changed how I think and feel about horses in many ways. I was able to purchase Casper and we spent many fulfilling hours learning to trust each other and making great progress with his fear issues. Casper has since been re-homed and is doing very well. He enjoys quiet rides and "being an only horse." His outlook on life is brighter and he is comfortable and well loved!

Casper a few months into his rehabilitation. He is showing more interest in people and is more trusting.
Major
Major is a 3 y.o. TB that was rescued in February 2008. Major belonged for a short time to an uneducated owner. Prior to their ownership, I am certain he was culled off of a TB farm in Ocala. Many colts like Major are sold at auction or given away when the farm feels they do not have the potential to be a racehorse. It is a sad fact and reality that hundreds of wonderful horses llike Major end up in these situations. Most are not as fortunate as Major was. Had Major not been rescued when he was, he most likely would not have survived his neglect. It has taken months of veterinary care, good feed, love, and attention to bring him around. As you can see by the pictures, Major's makeover is nothing short of miraculous! He is now a healthy, happy, and playful 16 h.h. horse that is ready for the next chapter in his life in his new home as of January 2009 in New York. .

Major will begin his training as a hunter this Spring with his new rider Allison. We look forward to updates on Major on his new journey.
