FF8 Characters
Squall Leonhart
The main character of the game, Squall is a talented young man with amazing potential. Squall is considered something of a lone wolf- he hates to rely on other people, and believes that the only person he can count on is himself. Squall is often brusque in the company of others, preferring to think to himself rather than voice his feelings. Despite this, most of the students at Balamb Garden both admire and genuinely like the quiet young man. During the course of the game, Squall will come to realize that there is no shame in accepting and reciprocating friendship... and even love.

Rinoa Heartily
A beautiful and spirited young woman, Rinoa likes to give her all to whatever cause she is fighting for, and her determination earns her many friends and admirers. When Rinoa meets up with Squall and the others from Garden, she is pleased to find friends her own age, but her lack of military training means she sometimes feels a little unsure and left out when battle is in the offing. Despite this, Rinoa acquits herself admirably, demonstrating not only sound battle skills, but a compassionate strength that not even Squall can ignore...
Rinoa is almost always accompanied by her dog, Angelo. Angelo's unique skills enable her to act as both friend and protector to her mistress.

Quistis Trepe
At the age of 10, Quistis began her exemplary career when she entered Balamb Garden. She became a SeeD at 15 and an instructor at 17. She even has her own fan club! Despite this, the young woman often feels isolated. The students look up to her, but other instructors think of her as an inexperienced rookie. It is perhaps this isolation coupled with a pressure to live up to expectations that causes Quistis to sometimes make errors in judgment. Nonetheless, Quistis' skills both on and off the battlefield are a great help on awkward missions.

Edea
A powerful sorceress, Edea is quick to secure a position of power in Galbadia and start directing events to her own mysterious design. Squall and his companions know all too little about the sorceress and her past. They only that she must be stopped before her quest for power destroys any more lives. Yet as events progress, it seems that the truth about Edea and her motivations may well be stranger than anything Squall and his friends could ever imagine.

Seifer Almasy
With an arrogance born of his exceptional fighting skills, Seifer considers himself to be above those around him. He has little respect for any authority other than his own. Despite his dreams of power, Seifer's attitude has earned him few friends, and thus far prevented him from passing his SeeD exams. Nevertheless, the young man strides confidently around Balamb Garden, accompanied by his "posse", Fujin and Raijin, secure in the knowledge of his superior ability. Only Squall is considered worthy enough to be his rival; the two men have a history of conflict that will set the pattern for the future.

Laguna Loire
Despite being a soldier in the Galbadian army, Laguna dreams of giving up the military life and becoming a journalist. Certainly he has plenty to write about - accompanied by his friends Kiros and Ward, Laguna's impractical nature often lands him into all manner of strange and even dangerous situations.
All too often, Laguna finds the burden of command falling to him. Despite his reluctance to be a leader, he acquits himself admirably, earning both enemies and true friends.

Ward Zabac
A friend and companion of Laguna and Kiros, Ward may be brawny, but he is by no means stupid. Although Ward seems to adopt an air of long-suffering when Laguna gets them into yet another difficult situation, there is no doubt that he is most at home fighting alongside his friends. In fact, Ward almost seems to consider it his duty to keep things down to earth in the face of some of Laguna's wilder schemes.
