Alban Elfed
Second Festival of Harvest
Like Osatra, this is a day of perfect balance. There is exactly as much dark as there is light. However, this time, it is the darkness that will grow and become more plentifull.. This Sabbat is a relatively somber one for the God is preparing to leave the body and begin the great adventure into the unseen, toward renewal and rebirth. We are overly blessed at this point because we are still delighting in the fruits of Lughnassadh.
In ancient times, this was the time for farmers to settle thier debts with landowners. This is a time of rebalancing, setting things right.. Giving thanks for what we have been given, much like the American Thanksgiving except it is celebrated in November, way past the actual end of the harvest season.
It is a time for reflection on death and rebirth. A time of assesment and contemplation. Mabon is the beginning of silence that comes with the dark half of the year.
