What is Wicca?

That is not a simple question to answer.

I have searched far and wide and still cannot find one universally accepted definition.  Although many specific, structured forms of Wicca exist, not all are in agreement regarding ritual, symbolism, and theology. However, it seems as if all forms seem to agree that
THE WICCAN REDE (which has many very similar versions), is a generally accepted code of conduct for Wiccans.

The most simple, basic definition of Wicca that I have been able to find is as follows…

Wicca is a religion centered on reverence for the creative forces of Nature usually symbolized by a dual Deity (a Goddess and a God).

It is a personal, positive celebration of life through which each individual can expand his or her own knowledge in order to understand the Universe and our place within it.

Wicca, like other religions, acknowledges a supreme divine power that created the entire Universe. This divine power is often referred to as “THE ONE”. The One molded energy into twin forms, equal but opposite, the Goddess and the God. The Goddess and God formed energy into suns and planets and moons. Seeing Their work and being satisfied with it, They rejoiced and loved, and were one. From this union came the seeds of all life, including the human race. All are born, live, die, and are reborn beneath the Sun (symbol of God) and Moon (symbol of the Goddess).

Wicca is also a religion that embraces magic as one of its basic concepts. Magic is a process in which one works in harmony with Divine Power (the Goddess and God who created everything in existence), as well Personal Power (the life force which sustains our earthly existence) and Earth Power (which exists within our planet and its natural products).  Magic is used to improve our lives and our world.

Magic is not to be used to destroy, manipulate or exploit anyone or anything. Despite many differences, all Wiccans will agree on this point! Because no matter which version or variation of
THE WICCAN REDE an individual prefers, they all contain two words that are universally accepted…HARM NONE!
