Can someone tell me why Jose needs the attention of everyone's "appreciation" of creating boards for every fan base? Seems like the guy must be lonely.

Heee, heeee, I didn't get me derrier kicked? Man The "hidden" steffi threads must be bustling by now. I'm ernestly shocked, that a flock of individuals didn't arrive to put me in my place ....... Waaaaaaa

DZ, unfortunately I don't really say everything I'd like to discuss tennis related, because certain posters are too sensitive and I don't really want to get in fights every day (LOL). Also I feel alot of people are scared to really speak their minds here, because people are so rigid and hateful to anyone with opinions varying from theirs. I gave up trying to have any real serious discussion with people who I thought had desire for it, because those individuals became rude individuals. I've been called flamer, loser, hater, racist, among many other hateful slurs (which makes those individuals exactly what they accuse me of - too bad they don't grasp that)

So basically I appear to follow scores and run the contest (despite I'm behind again Waaaa) and that's about it anymore. Tennis discussion here is basically useless, and I've resolved to never bother anymore except to support players I like. I will stick around here to the end as well, as my interest here has always been tennis.

Well, I think I've made me some enemies over on the Stepford Board

Barb's posts on Monica Zone on CNN: Tuesday, 04/24/01, 2:45:00am of 4080)

Look.

I understand many people love the new board - it's what they want and that is fine. The whole point of my previous post was in response to questions I've had as to why I don't frequent there. I simply said I like more diversity of opinion. Are I saying change the new board? No. I'm just letting people know what I like. I do have a right to my preferences. I'm not trying to impose my belief system on anyone. I'm just stating my feelings - the respect for which is something I appreciate on a forum.

Now - as for email addy: I've changed server and despite a lot of effort tonight, still have been unable to get it up and running. As soon as it is, I'll let people know so keep those cards and letters ready. I can't wait to read them

barb's Message on our Steffi board Apr 24, 2001:

Now for my POV. People have been curious about my post on CNNSI and I think misunderstod it so let me try and clarify. First of all, I tried to make the point that I thought it was kind of Jose to make the board. Furthermore, I understand that many like the forum the way it is and I think that is just great for them The whole purpose of my post was to answer queries I've had as to why I don't post more often on these forums. As I said there, I prefer more diversity of opinion. That's just my personal prefernce. It's not right or wrong. But it is my preference and I will stick with it

For example: I look at the Tennis Court and see almost 11000 posts on Andre's thread and 19 on Sampras'. I see 1 on Henman's. I see 6 on Safin's. I see 2 on Mark P's. I personally like Agassi but that says to me that there isn't a very balanced group there. And it seems certain posters are not being courted for membership. Apparently most here like it that way and so be it. But it's not what I'm looking for in a forum. I'm not in any way shape or form suggesting things change to suit me. But if people ask me why I'm not there, I'll be honest. That's me. Love me or hate me but take me as I am.

MC - Apr 22, 2001 5:17 pm (#360

BTW - I kinda like being on the dark side. It gets so tiresome being the Mary Poppins of CNNSI. Problem is, there still are some nice people there I like and hate to offend. (I have no problem offending people I don't like but the nice ones...well...it's like why I like Elisabeth).

Any way - at least here I can be my bitchy self

FYI for those "confused" and those in need of a few facts. People who care less (which apparently isn't many if you are honest... scroll on by)

"Sydney_ - Monday, 04/23/01, 9:14:35pm (#4054 of 4075)

Jose thought Rave was in on it. If he was wrong then it is a shame she was banned, but Jose could care less who likes Andre." yet when is she going to be reinstated July 4,2010? You get my point, this is a KNOWN error of what a month now?

I was glad I got you to admit this, commend you for posting it because you came out with "priviledge don't tell them" information, but yet in the same breath I have to say the very idea that you know something you should not, is what I've been disturbed about. I dislike the rumor mill, because often times you are fed lies. However, based on your "apology", it sure didn't seem like it mattered to you that you have mis-information.

What do we have? Rave was accused of being bad (when she wasn't) and someone fed that info to a pal, who fed that info to a pal. Now everyone assumes she's guilty of something she wasn't even around for. Now that the LIE is exposed, I'm the bad guy for exposing the lying? Sorry if exposing the gossip mill and lie spreading is so troubling for some, but it's better than dropping it like it's 100% ok. It's NOT and none of you can change that.

Yesh, ever since Rave was banned I've been bothered by this place (in fact made a point not to post here except on rare occasions) ::hears applause:: I was surprised your only reaction was "weird". Not "she shouldn't be banned. let's get her back on.", which to me spelt you knew she was banned or why anyways. She's been accused of doing the venus/serena gig and everyone thinks it's true thanks the gossipy nature here. Also things don't go away by ignoring, their best dealt with (although annoying to do, especially for the gossipers), only someone with something to hide wants to drop it (to not be exposed for being not so good themselves).

Chrissy/Yesh, Also to your false info claim. I don't make a habit of lying about what I say when I'm serious (what may be false to you, isn't necessarily true to another person). Please point to what you feel I misrespresented or stated falsely and I'd be happy to discuss it. I'm not above apologizing for mis-info and I'd also be happy to discuss why I feel the way I do.

FIN

Jose - Apr 25, 2001 1:06 am (#1 of 9)

Well, I got a big surprise Monday night.

I dropped by the chatroom on the "Tennis Court" board after checking to see if there were any thread requests, and everyone in it started calling me "controversial" and asking whether I'm lonely. I was confused until they told me that my fan club—SF1 and Rave—were singing my praises on the Monica thread at CNNSI.

Insane Bob 4/23/01 10:27pm

Sydney told me in the chatroom the gist of what you and Rave were posting at CNNSI, and I went and read the posts before going to bed. It's a good thing I did since I saw earlier that the sysop had hidden almost all of them. (Technically, they aren't being deleted.)

I explained to Sydney and the others in the chatroom what happened as far as Rave's "banning." I meant to respond to your posts earlier, but I didn't have time. You say you're providing a "few facts." No, you're listing a lot of assumptions which you think are facts. So Sydney said that some people had told her that Rave was banned for the "Venus" and "Serena" imposters that showed up here? I never told her that, and I never told anyone else that either. But it isn't difficult to understand how that rumor would have gotten started.

If Rave complained to anyone from this board that she'd been banned, what would have been the first thing that would occur to the person? "Oh, Jose must have banned her and Kate for those 'Venus' and 'Serena' posts." What other trouble had there been on this board? And don't forget that I left those 3 threads up for close to two weeks after they were made, and everybody would have seen that "Serena Williams" was actually Kate after she'd changed her username to "O Mighty Kate." So anyone who heard that Rave had been "banned" no doubt would have jumped to the conclusion that she was "Venus Williams." Whether she was or not I don't know. I do know (and you admitted to me last year) that you had been using the name "Venus Williams" at CNNSI. Since you insist that it wasn't Rave, I don't suppose it could have been you, Scott, could it? :)

(More to come.)

Jose - Apr 25, 2001 1:10 am (#2 of 9)

In any case, the facts are that I never banned Rave. Did she lose her access to the "Tennis Court" forum? If she was a member there, she did. (She also lost her access to this board for a day or two, though she may not have realized it.) Several other people got locked out of both boards inadvertantly, including Abhi. You remember him from Steffi's old thread at CNNSI, don't you?

Back on March 22nd, Abhi sent me an email asking why he couldn't get into this board or the "Tennis Court." To save time, I'm just going to copy and paste the email I sent him:

From: Jose@worldcrossing.com

To: Abhi Dattasharma <abhid@interrait.com>

Subject: Your login

Date: 3/22/01 11:50 am

Abhi,

I'm sorry about that. Late Tuesday night, I was talking with two Serena Williams fans over on the "Tennis Court," when one of them suddenly told me that I needed to check the Venus thread. I looked and saw that someone using the name "Alex Stevens" had posted a photo of two nude men engaged in oral sex. I deleted the post and banned the poster immediately. Then, to prevent "Alex" from getting right back in with a new name, I changed the settings to restrict access to the board. Now, new members can join only if I or a cohost adds their names to the "participant" list.

Then last night, I was talking with someone in the "Tennis Court" chatroom, when Irma (Steffifan) showed up and told me that two imposters, "Venus Williams" and "Serena Williams," were posting at "Steffi." I went and banned them, then restricted access to that board too.

The reason you couldn't get in is that a week or so ago I cleared the names on the "participant" lists of both boards. Each list had around 200 members, and I wanted to see whether that many people were actually visiting the boards regularly. The lists show every World Crossing member who ever visited the boards even if it was only once. By clearing the names, I'd be able to see how many were actually coming back. Unfortunately, you hadn't been back to the boards yet when I restricted access. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, and I just added your name to both boards.

Sincerely,

Jose

(More to come.)

Jose - Apr 25, 2001 1:21 am (#3 of 9)

By the way, there really are nearly 200 people visiting these boards regularly. Within a few days after I cleared the participant lists, the number of members on both boards had jumped back up to within a few dozen of where they'd been before. (In case you're wondering, I didn't have to count each name on the list. The forum "usage statistics" show the number of hosts, participants, moderated users, etc.)

Because so many people had returned so soon, I assumed that all of the regular posters had already returned when I restricted access to the boards, so I was surprised at first when I got Abhi's email. Then I remembered that the last time I'd talked to him he'd told me that he rarely had time to visit the boards. A day or two later, I started getting more emails from people who'd lost access to one or both boards, so I decided to check the participant lists of both boards to see if I'd locked out any other posters I knew.

On this board, I noticed that MC, Helen, XTN, Rave, CFS, and you (Insane Bob) weren't on the list, i.e., none of you had been back here after I'd cleared the names. That's why I said that Rave had lost her access to this board too for a little while, but she probably hadn't realized it. I added all of you, then went to check the "Tennis Court." MC was already on the list there, but you, Helen, Rave, CFS, and XTN weren't. I only added Helen and XTN, mainly because I'd never noticed the rest of you on the list for that board, and I knew that none of you had posted there. Besides, I'd seen Kate's board, the "Jose Files," so I decided that if you, Rave, and CFS wanted to join the "Tennis Court," the least you could do is ask me. J

(More to come.)

Jose - Apr 25, 2001 1:58 am (#5 of 9)

So now we come to the fascinating question of why none of you said anything about Rave's "banning" before now. By the way, I love this line in your post: "Yesh, ever since Rave was banned I've been bothered by this place (in fact made a point not to post here except on rare occasions)" So you're telling us that after your good friend Rave, who was absolutely innocent of any wrongdoing, got "banned," you were only "bothered" by this board and decided to stay away. That's a rather amazing reaction.

Tell me, why didn't you or CFS ask me why she'd lost access right after it happened? In this post, you said that you had your "hunches." Instead of sitting around coming up with "hunches," the obvious thing to do was ask me. That's what those other members did when they lost access. I guess you and CFS developed a sudden case of shyness. :)

Jose - Apr 25, 2001 2:24 am (#9 of 9)

CFS

Let's consider a few facts, shall we? The link to the "Tennis Court" is sitting at the top of every page of this board. There are also a few links to it on the A Few Announcements thread. (In case you never noticed, that's where I told everyone here about the new board.) But you just said that you didn't think you'd ever been there. Tell me, what would you think if someone didn't visit a board even though there are links to it all over the place? Wouldn't it be natural to assume that the person isn't interested? I knew for certain that XTN and Helen had been there because their names were in a very visible spot near the bottom of the list. The names are in alphabetical order, but if a username has two parts, it's sorted by the last name, so "Helen Will" was listed just above XTN.

Interestingly, in one of Scott's posts on CNNSI's Monica thread, he said he'd like the link to my other board, but he wasn't about to ask me for it. Note, he didn't say he wanted access, he said he wanted the link, so apparently every time he came to this board, he somehow managed to miss all of those links to the "Tennis Court." Maybe he should have his vision checked

Insane Bob - Apr 25, 2001 9:40 am

You got me Jose!

Jose LOL, someone was nice to provide the post(s?) you made (I couldn't find it). I can admit I've been a fool(ish). You had me laughing at the post you made, because I had been soooooo silly. I even email Sydney stating I had been presumptious and to a few others as well.

To answer your questions:

The link at the top for "tennis courts", I never noticed actually. Ever since CNNSI put that long dialog at the top I ignore any dialogue that isn't a post(CNNSI has ruined alot of things). Rave was the one that told me about it. She had access I guess when it was open to everyone. I wasn't around when it first started, as I've been so busy it's not even funny. I think the other place came up when I think she asked why hadn't I posted there. (I think that was how it was brought up). I went there because I would be interested in posting there (especially since alot of posters who provide scores have moved away from CNNSI). However I ran into the "email Jose" screen. So when I knew about your threads, I was not able to be on your user list since it was already setup for access by email only. I'm aware of the stats you get, when I had buttons on kate's place, but Waaaaaaa she stole them, giving me THE KATE!!!! BAD BAD KATE!!!! I didn't have a get out of the "THE KATE" jail free card.

Gosh I've forgotten whatelse....

1) to the venus/serena, I don't remember which I was, I used that only to make a ruccus when I found out she was "access-deprived" (LOL guess that's the way to put it now). I told whoever asked as well (like I told you I always do) - as a fan here had asked and I did tell them the truth. I'm not always proud of everything I do (the problem of being overly opinionated on things and jump to conclusions just like anyone), but I won't conceal it.

2) The reason I may jump to a conclusion of a conspiracy theory about you Jose.... I think you know why. ;)

Well accept my apology anyways, I do get carried away for certain things. (syndey will probably faint on me now)

Insane Bob 4/25/01 9:40am

Scott, of course, I'll accept your apology, and I can certainly understand why you and the others would have assumed that I'd banned Rave from the other board after she lost access. But I wish one of you had checked with me to make sure. After all, it must have seemed odd that she still had access to this board.

By the way, it's funny that you never noticed the Tennis Court link or announcement before. I'd included a thread on that board for your "picks" contest, and when I never saw you post on it, I assumed that you and the others had decided to snub the board. It never occurred to me that you hadn't seen the announcement.

There are a few more things I want to mention—plus I haven't responded to MC's post yet—but it's already past 3:45 am here, so I think it'll have to wait till tomorrow. But I want to let you know that I've added you, Rave, CFS, and even Kate to the Tennis Court's participant list. And I've taken Kate off of the "No Access" list on this board. (Contrary to what some people say about me, I don't hold grudges. Don't forget that I'm the one who invited you to this board.) To get to the other board, just click that tiny, hard-to-see link at the top of the page. J

Insane Bob 4/25/01 9:40am

I was surprised to read that you couldn't find my posts from last night. I guess you weren't expecting to see my response on a new thread. I originally started posting them here, but I type so slowly, every time I posted a message there was a post from someone else ahead of it. I thought it looked a bit too silly, so I decided to repost them on a new thread. And even there, CFS slipped some posts in on me before I was finished. :)
