ROAD TEST by Stephen Walker |

Rover's of the past have been impressive because of their strength. Drive on old SD1 series Rover 3500 and you'll see what I mean. But can today's Rover provide the same feeling?
Here we'll look at a Rover 75 Connoisseur, which we drove for two days around Victoria. Based in Melbourne, the plan was to loop Port Phillip Bay one day and drive out to the Dandenong Mountains the next.
The drive was eagerly anticipated. With a mid-morning departure on day one from St Kilda, in suburban Melbourne, we drove down the eastern side of Port Phillip Bay and had lunch in Shoreham before continuing to Sorrento. From there, we took the ferry to Queenscliff. Then we drove back to Melbourne via Geelong. On the second day, it was out to the Dandenongs for lunch at Sassafras. A total of 502 kms was covered in a particularly good mix of highway and freeway conditions together with city, suburban and country roads.
Behind the wheel you quickly acclimatise to the luxurious surroundings. The woodgrain..... the leather..... all very, very nice..... all very, very Rover!
