Show vs. Tell
In spite of only several kilograms of necessities of life on my back, I even couldn't straighten my back. I plodded my weary way forward slowly as my feet felt like heavier than lead. The sky hadn't turned bright when I left the former campsite but now the spreading shades of dusk was engulfing the last beam of evening glow. Although it wasn't as hot as during the midday, I felt that the fire in my thoracic cavity was flaming more and more fiercely. My feet soles had become so tender that I could only walk with a limp even on those soft sand dunes. I stopped to have rests frequently, took a little precious water and food to appease my body which was threatening to go on strike. Sometimes I really didn't want to continue the journey, but sparking stars emerged later urged me to go on and to head for the invisible destination on the horizon far away.
A gust of fresh breeze blew across the dead valley and rubbed against jagged rocks on top the mountain, made murmuring howls. The clouds, which were as ashen as the gravel ground, soon hid the rising sun and covered this lifeless area. A corsac was scanning every square centimetre of the earth, digging in the grit, wished to find some little insects to allay its hunger before it turned too hot. Unfortunately, there weren't even any roots of withered grass. Suddenly, a blast of wind raised a cloud of dust and made a clean sweep of the land, tried to remove anything living around. The dense clouds were dispelled immediately while the fierce sun started to roast the uneven land surface and parch the dry riverbed. Then it was extremely silent, nothing was moving except the heat wave and no colour ca could be seen apart from the pale white Gobi world.
My mom is the most beautiful woman in my eyes. She always has a smile on her face and brings me courage, comfort and hope. No matter in the factory or in the family, she is one of the most popular people and gets on very well with the others. That is because she is a catalyst for the lively atmosphere of a party and a calming agent on unpleasant occasions. She is always a friend in need. When I was in China several years ago, my mom took every care of me: from breakfast to supper, from study to life. I could get her help when facing difficulties and be spurred after receiving achievements. She is magnanimous and benevolent, who is yearning to accomplish her studies that she didn't finish during her early years. Even though my mom has come off duty for long recently, she doesnĄ¯t stop throwing herself into learning of new skills. To me, no one has spent more effort than she has and no one is worth me loving more. She is my most ideal example forever.
No sounds could be heard in the unlit room besides the patter of rain falling on the roof, just like someone was playing the dulcimer in the deep distant sky but tugged my heartstrings, too. Lying in bed, I tried to open my eyes as big as possible as if the darkness around would gobble me up. The air seemed to be still, even the usually noisy mice acted like haunting spirits to avoid cat's pray. I felt quite stuffy; all could be heard was my short breath with a bit terror. Then I trembled, found it so cool that I felt like need a piece of quilt to cover on my body on such a summer night. Then it appeared that the whole room was shaking because I thought I heard the sound of the walls vibrating slightly: I couldn't identify that but swallowed. After one minute's panic, I found the sound growing louder and louder, then stopped abruptly. Not long later, I realised that it was a mosquito as my ear went itching.
With a crack, a little cat got into the house through a door with no lock. After shaking its drenched body, the little fairy ran fast in this hollow wood structure and intended to find a warm fire to get rid of moisture and mildew smell. The banisters cracked as soon as the cat jumped onto it frightened that little animal to hop upstairs with all its four paws together. Cold wind burst in with raindrops through a window with no panes attempted to tear the rotted window frame into pieces. Water seeped in through gaps in the hay ceiling continuously, caused the cat nowhere to hide and so as to keep dry. While busy dodging the dripping rains it accidentally trod on a rusty nail and yowled. Just a few seconds later, with an even more painful scream, the cat skipped about yet unawares fell downstairs through a hole in the floor. While that unlucky cat, which would have only one life left out of nine as the Bible said, was struggling to crawl out of this hell through a even bigger hole in the brick wall, a loose brass oil lamp fell off the wall and struck this suffered angel into swoon directly.
