Sail Handler
-
Sail Handler 1:
-
The person who
hoists the sail with the halyard, sets the line on the winch and tails the
rope while the Sail Handler 2 winches the sail into position, then belays
the halyard to a cleat or pin.
During a tack Sail Handler 1 lets go the jib sheet and makes sure it is free
running then winches the other sheet while Sail Handler 2 pulls the sheet
tight and tails the line from the winch. Sail Handler 2 belays the sheet
after the tack is complete.
-
Sail Handler 2:
-
The person who
holds the winch handle while the Sail Handler 1 pulls the halyard tight and
sets the line onto the winch whereupon the Sail Handler 2 winches the sail
until it is fully and tightly deployed. After Sail Handler 1 belays the line
Sail Handler 2 overhauls the line on deck.
During a tack Sail Handler 2 hauls in the jib sheet after the corresponding
jib sheet has been let go. After it tightens he will set it on the winch
and while Sail Handler 1 grinds the winch he tails the sheet until the jib
is trimmed then belays the line.
