I am not a serious fan of films, and I have difficulty remembering people's names.  So don't count on me to tell you who the directors or actors/actresses are.  But trust me, you will not be disappointed by the following recommendations  :)

Lovers of the Arctic Circle (Spanish): a beautiful story about coincidences in life, Otto and Ana.

Requiem for a Dream (English): a very disturbing film......

The City of Lost Children (French): a fairy tale, lovely.

Dancer in the Dark (English): Bjork, if you happen to know this brilliant musician, is featured in this very touching musical drama.  Her unforgettable performance got all my tears out......

Urga (Mongolian, Mandarin, Russian): an encounter between a Russian driver working in China and a Mongolian family.  Although I didn't like some of the messages the director tried to deliver, the overall setting in China is enough to compensate for that......Yes, I am seriously missing home......

The Taste of Others (French):  my landlord rented this film the other day and although I had final exam the following day......What can I say?  I think I really like the French style, the perspective, and the illustration of people's inner world.

Open Your Eyes (Spanish):  the original for Vanilla Sky, very weird, reality or dream?

The Shawshank Redemption (English):  if you ever feel disappointed and down, watch this film.  It will fill you up with so much hope.

Mediterraneo (Italian): a group of Italian soldiers living happily on a Greek island during WWII, and a donkey called Silvana...

Room to Rent (English): very funny and...a love story that continues through lives.

Maua: The Emperor and the King (Brazilian): a courageous entrepreneur who is determined to develop his country, and who insists to pay off his debt

Les Amants (French):  a black-and-white classic, has Jeanne at last found her true love?

Suzhou River (Chinese):  Chinese version of real love.

Italian for Beginners (Danish):  another search for love, very warm, though a bit depressing at the beginning.

Jour de Fete (French):  having learned that the American postmen are using helicopters to deliver mails, a village postman set out to increase his "efficiency".  Beautiful, lovely, and full of laughters  :))))

Amelie (French):  lovely story, beautiful photography, great colour, take action!

The Soong Sisters (Chinese):  one loves money, one loves power, one loves her country... Not easy to cover such a span of history in a short film, but a good try!  And I love Meggie's performance.

Actress (Chinese):  another great film by Meggie, she is gorgeous!!!  It's a story of a famous Chinese actress in the 1930s, Ruan Ling Yu, her life and her death.  Gossip can murder!

Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (Spirited Away) (Japanese animation):  an adventure story of a kind-hearted girl, full of imagination and creativity, completely refreshing and heart-warming.

Talk to Her (Spanish):  two girls in coma, and two guys who love them thus meet...the music is so beautiful, the story so touching, and the dance at the end so full of life...

Nowhere in Africa (German):  Walter, Jettel and Regina, escaping Germany before the war, it's a beautiful story about how each member of this Jewish family managed to adjust to their new life in Kenya, the evolvement of their relationship, and an even more difficult decision about their departure.

Nueve Reinas (Nine Queens) (Argentinean):  if you want to get to know the Argentineans, hmmm...i love the twist at the end  :)
