Is Pokemon evil
Pokemon is a popular Japanese cartoon, which is well known by all the kids in The United States. It started as a small TV cartoon series that was introduced by the “Wanner Brothers”, but it turned out to be a big success. It became the biggest cartoon heat just a few months later after it’s first shown. Kids are crazy about it. I saw a few episodes myself too, the stories are not bad, the characters are funny, and the monsters in the cartoon are cuter than ever, no wander kids love it so much.
Since the Pokemon is so hot, thousands of products of Pokemon have entered the market; T-shirts, dolls, and they even have something, which is called trading cards. From my 5-year-old cousin’s information, kids trade the cards with their friends. I don’t know the details of how they work, but I do know that they have become kids’ favorite card game. The cards are sold for 5 dollar a set in most stores (There are about 5 cards in one set). Although they are an expensive way to satisfy children, most parents still willing to spend their money for the happiness of their kids. But lately, the big heat has gong a little out of hand. The “Wanner Brothers” wanted to squeeze a little more money out of the parents’ pockets; they had “proudly” presented “Pokemon! The First Movie” The movie got the kids all wild up, they even skipped school just for seeing the movie. There is more, a few weeks ago, a 7-year-old kid and his 9-year-old cousin was fighting over some Pokemon trading cards, under the angry and confusing situation, the 7-year-old took out an small pocket knife, and stabbed the 9-year-old on his knee. The kid was fine after a hospital treatment, but the whole thing has the parents terrified. “Pokemon is evil,” some parents said.
Is Pokemon evil? It did cause some disturbance that made people worry. I mean, it’s the children that we are concerned, it’s the world’s feature that we are talking about. But is Pokemon, itself, the reason that makes the kids go crazy? From the way I look at it, it’s just an excuse that the grown up had made for themselves. To the kids, Pokemon is just a cartoon, but to the grown ups, it’s a job and money resource. Can you imaging how much money it has made just for movie, how much job it has provided just for the store to sell the Pokemon products? People, who made money by selling Pokemon products, spend their money on other business, so that other people can make money. It’s like a Cycle. People in one hand, feeding their children by using the money that they made out of Pokemon, but in the other hand, stating how bad the Pokemon has turned the kids into, and never realizing what provided money for them. Beside, it’s parents’ own fault to make their children to be the victim of this “Evil” thing. They spoiled the children with their own hand; they let them fell into the trap by satisfying their no ending needs for pleasure. There is nothing wrong with loving your children, but spoil them rotten aren’t they way. People are greedy, that includes children. When they found pleasure, they want more, that’s why parents should see what’s ahead. It’s just like people that do drugs or gambling, once they taste the sweet, they want more, and more, until something bad happens, then they try to push the guilt on someone else. The whole Pokemon thing is just the same, only in the kids’ version. Parents may not realize it, but what they are trying to blame the cartoon “evil”, for the guilt of spoiling their children, so that they would look as innocence as the victim.
Beside, the cartoon did spread a lot of positive message, it teaches kids friendship and love. So who is really the “Evil” one, you decide.
