YLID BIO

Ylid (ee-lid) is a three-piece rock band from the Niagara region. Formed about two years ago, Ylid has been playing as many shows as possible and composing new material every week. Jeremy (Guitar) and Mike (Drums) have been playing together for many years and Gary (Bass) joined two years ago to form the trio after a few jam sessions. In 1999, Ylid won a battle of the bands competition at Isaac's Bar & Grill in St. Catharines. In addition to the cash and prizes, Ylid received airplay on Brock University's CFBU radio as a result of this competition.

The music Ylid creates is difficult to pigeon-hole into a single adjective, but has been described as: monkey-lovin' rock 'n roll, alterna-punk, and/or ass-grabbin' boogie-woogie fever inducing rock (whew!).

Major musical influences include Black Flag to Fugazi, The Who to Pearl Jam, and Motorhead to Slayer. This wide range of influences makes every song Yild has a unique piece of music.

Ylid has played shows in St. Catharines, Welland, and Niagara Falls, with local bands like The Smoothies, The Pozers and a major label, one-hit wonder, Smoother (during which they stole all their sandwiches-he he he). Ylid has also played a recent show in Toronto with the independent bands Bender and Anything and Everything.

The main thing that Ylid takes pride in is their live performance. The three members compensates for the lack of bodies on stage by pouring every ounce of energy they have into every song played, leaving the audience with the sense of how much the band loves to play music. With the variety and uniqueness of all of their material, and the energetics of their live show, Ylid is an independent band that roars louder than the Niagara Falls.
