"The Twenty-first Experience"

1/14/02 2:24am At the stroke of midnight, January 11, 2001, my life became much more fulfilling. Returning to Waco for my 21st birthday, I met up with my Baylor friends for a night at Clicks, followed by a `night cap` at Crickets. I would like to thank all of you who bought a drink for me that night and since. Its been a great experience thus far, sitting at the bar enjoying alcohol the way it was meant to be drunk; not sneakingin sips of beer while the waitress wasnĄ¯t looking. I would also like to extend my gratitude to all the people who called me for my birthday. The next night, it was off to Dallas, partying at Area 51 amongst thousands of Dallas Asians. It was my original intent to avoid going out and getting trashed, but like my friends say, "I only turn 21 once."
The Spring Semester has finally arrived, and I for one, have many things to look forward to. On top of keeping to my extensive New Years resolutions, I plan to enjoy the new semester, opening up to all of my friends at school. Hopefully, I won`t revert to my normal apathetic ways. This semester will be more than just smoking weed and watching T.V. Basketball will bring many of us together. The library will be used more as a learning resource center, rather than as a social hangout place. I`ll be cooking more meals to save some money, and I`ll be frequenting Penland to eat more veggies. Last, but not least, I will be joined by Salex this semester. Salex is the name of my new kitten, a thoughtful gift from my good friends, Sandra and Alex. After recent developments with issues concerning my parents, a new creature in my life is just the thing to boost my spirits up. A faithful pet accompanies all the great ones. Take Harry Potter and his owl, Ash and Pikachu, He-Man and that ugly green/orange tiger, or Dorothy and her little dog. In any sense, the new kitten will be a total babe magnet, so I foresee many good times ahead.
The twenty-first experience also includes a brilliant idea that was shared to me by Eunhi. Her theory on the struggle of being Asian American has really helped to put my life into prospective. Where will we, as Asian Americans, be several generations down the line? Furthermore, it has helped me to embrace my Japanese heritage, for the time is now to start making an impact on our Asian American society. Hopefully, Eunhi will be writing a book on this great subject, and every one ofyou will see what I`m talking about.
Have a great semester!
