"H-Town Love"

3/5/02 1:11am
Houston is where I call home, and you know what they say - home is where the heart is. I know I rag on H-Town for how ghetto it is, and how statistics show that Houston is the nation`s fattest city. But after a peaceful afternoon in the city where I grew up, I`m not as dissatisfied about Houston as I was prior to this Spring Break.
I woke up around 2pm today. It was still a little chilly outside, but I could feel the warm sunrays blanket my body as I was coming back from dreamland. I decided to seize the day by going out and enjoying the Houston scene. Eugene picked me up around 3pm and we went to High Times to invest in some drug paraphernalia. After that, it was off to Tan Tans to meet up with Big Tae, Hwanger, Tiffany, and Chrissy. I had the great pleasure of watching Hwanger eat his meal `Big Dawg Style.` It wasn`t a pleasant sight. The boys took off to Acapulco shortly thereafter, so Eugene and I decided to find some herbal refreshments and enjoy a relaxing afternoon. It wasn`t easy trying to score some bud during the holidays, when all the UT folks are still up in Austin. After about 25 phone calls to really random individuals and a few pit stops at some bizarre places, we finally got our hands on some dank. After that, Houston seemed much more interesting. I spent about 20 minutes at Walgreens looking for eye drops. The lady at Randalls (that`s Tom Thumb in Dallas) saw all the munchies I was buying, and she promptly commented, "must be junk food night." Hell yea, lady.
All right, so my day wasn`t that interesting after all. The important thing is that I have a newfound respect for the city I grew up in. The people are nice, the food is great, bud is plentiful, and it`s basically where my roots are. Everywhere I turn, there`s some sort of memory that`s associated with my past. I can`t find that at Waco (with the exception of Naerim perhaps, who tortured me throughout my school days).
Last night, I watched "Transformers: The Movie" which I borrowed from Bill. I was appalled to find out that Megatron ends up killing Optimus Prime. How could they kill off the heart and soul of the Autobots? What`s even crazieris the fact that this movie of battling transforming robots takes place on earth in the year 2005. That`s only three years away. The nerds at Battle Bots really need to crank it up a notch, in my humble opinion. I`ve always been a big fan of Transformers, but this movie left me feeling deserted and lost. Sure, the Dinobots had a real crucial role and everything, but this movie left me feeling lost and confused. I don`t care much for change, and they should never mess with an original. Nevertheless, if you are a Transformer fan, I recommend giving this movie a try.
Warm weather joins us once again, and it should start to feel more like a real Spring Break starting tomorrow. I really had little expectations for this vacation time, but all the Mexico-bound people should be returning to Houston real soon, and things might get even more interesting. Till then, Seinfeld in syndication is all I need.
