Pactolus Light |
The Legend This place has many differnt stories that are pretty much similar. the real one though, it goes a little something like this: It was early 1900's and there was a railroad track that once ran through this small place called Pactolus. A man from Greenville road on his horse to pactolus, to wave by to his girlfriend who would be riding on this train. While the man waited for the train, a group of people hiding in the woods ambushed and murdered him. When the train finally went by, the girlfriend had no idea her boyfriend was dead on the side of the tracks. The story now goes, late at night, if you go to where these tracks use to be, you can see the man's lantern on the side of the tracks. Sometimes the lights up like its on a horse, sometimes low like he is walking, still waiting for his girlfriend to pass by. Your suppose to either face your car down the path, or use a flashlight, and shine it two or three times and then wait for a minute. His light is supose to shine back the two or three times, or just apear and stay there for awhile. Sometimes it will start comming towards you very fast, but disapears before it gets to you, and sometimes it will apear agian behind you. Our Trip We finally got correct directions to Pactolus after a bogus trip, so we were all in a bit of a bad mood, we were also missing Cullen "the brave one" and knew it would be much scarier without him. On this 2nd trip, we knew we had made it to the exact spot, and started to walk. Before we got on the path we saw drawn in the dirt a message. it said Heavy Chevy, I Love Red. At this point Kryle insisted we leave, but then we made him realize we came all this way twice, and had to keep going. about 10 feet down the path we realized its a horrible unwalkable path. Every 3 feet is huge ditches of water and its hard to get around them (and it hadn't even rained in awhile). we spent about thirty minutes of walking only making it about 200 yards before we saw the remains of a car crash on the path, this looks like a 4 wheeler track now so we werent suprised. Brendan was wet from falling in about 9 puddles, and we could see many more ahead of them ahead, so we stopped and made this our farthest point of travel. We shined our lights numerous times and waited. No light came back and we heard either someone yelling or a dog barking from a house nearby, so we decided to vote on leaving. We voted to stay but jake kryle and brendan had already started running back to the car with no ghost sitings. The scariest part of our trip was the fact we were on private property, and we had heard of people getting chased by the locals here. Our digital camera was out of batteries, and it was way too dark for the video camera to pick up anything, so we have no pictures to show. Dan Adam and Scott may go back without the others so they can stay for longer time, but for now, this place is only scary if you worry about locals chasing you. Here is a picture of us on our first trip with incorrect directions. This path must have just been some random path in a somewhat scary location, that wasted 2 hours of our night. Warning This place is private property, and you should not go without talking to the people and gettin permission to take this trip. And from what we saw, it wouldnt be worth it. |
