Gameplay:
The gameplay is a lot like something you might have seen in Namco's Tekken series, but set on a 3D environment, with free-roaming movement. Battle can consist of between 2 - 8 characters. You use the four face buttons to perform combos, a single button to jump and block, and that's the basic controls down pat. What makes it different is the use of magic and summons...
Magic:
Magic is simple to use: stringing together certain combos will cast a type of magic, whether it be a Fire or Blizzard style magic, or a Cure or a status-inducing magic. The trickier and longer the button press, the stronger magic it yields. Using this magic will also increase your Summon Meter.
Summons:
Your Summon Meter, when full, allows your character to summon a creature seen in recent Final Fantasy games. The summon system is easy to use: holding down L2 or R2 will open a summon menu (depending on which button you hold), with each menu showing four different summons available (when all have been unlocked). The four face buttons then correspond to a summon which, when pressed, summon the creature chosen. The following summons are available:
L2 Menu:
Shiva
Ifrit
Odin
Bahamut
R2 Menu:
Eden
Anima
Griever (Unlocked after completing all FF8 character's stories in Story Mode)
Knights of the Round (Unlocked after completing all FF7 character's stories in Story Mode)

Arcade Mode lets you pit up to 8 characters head to head or in teams in a variety of different game modes. Different game types include:
One on One - two fighters go head to head in a battle of the brawns.
Team - up to 8 characters team up in equal teams to fight it out.
Handicap - like Team, but with unequal teams.
OmnipotentWeapon - an incredibly powerful weapon exists on the battlefield, the one who holds it has immense power. When the character holding the weapon dies, the weapon is dropped.
Capture The Flag - up to 8 characters are put into 2 teams, their objective is to capture the opponent's flag and bring it to their own flag, which must also be protected.
Battle Royal - up to 8 characters in an all out brawl... no friends all allies here!
