What is so special about Tohi and Tweedale?
I have been coming to Camp Tohikanee since I was seven years old. I have gone as a camper for nine years, and have been on staff for one year. Camp, for me, just has some magical kind of feeling to it. Everything that you do there, everything you experience, is just different in some way. However, the two things that sticks in my mind the most are the friends that I have made while at camp and the things I have learned about those friends. The longer you stay, the better. But no matter how long you stay -- whether for two weeks, or just three days, you will always go home with at least two new friends.
How much will it cost to come to camp?
Sessions range in cost from anywhere around $110 for a mini session to $430 for some two week sessions. However, as part of Freedom Valley Girl Scout Council's commitment to make Girl Scout opportunities available to all girls, financial assistance is provided to any girl currently registered with the Council who could not otherwise enjoy the camping experience. To allow more girls to experience summer camp programs, funds may be requested for only one program session per girl.
Can someone still come to camp if she is not a registered Girl Scout?Yes. Freedom Valley Girl Scout Council camps are open to all girls. Non Girl Scouts may attend for an additional fee of $40.00.
What is the food like at camp?
Well, as official Kitchen Staff of Camp Tohi, I would personally say that the food at camp is very good. We provide a large variety of different foods, so you never eat the same meal twice. We always have a salad bar available, and there is always a vegetarian alternative to whatever we are serving. If you have special dietary needs, we will try our best to meet your needs as well. Some examples of meals that we served this past summer are for breakfast: breakfast burritos, coffee cake, eggs, waffles, pancakes, and bagels. For lunch: grilled cheese and tomato soup, stir fry, potatoes, beef-a-roni, chicken nuggets and rice. For dinner: tacos, spaghetti, chicken, hamburgers and veggie burgers. I know we ate a lot more than this, but for the life of me I can't remember. As I remember things I'll add them in. Sorry. Ya know, in serving things all summer they have a way of slipping out of your mind after a while. A strange sensation to say the least.
I'd like to come to camp, but I feel like I am too old to be a camper.
Well, first of all, I'd like to point out that you are definitely never too old to come to camp. There are some programs at Tohi and Tweedale just for senior girl scouts, such as Iron Women and Ropes, Rocks and Rappelling and Night Riders at Tohi and Canoe-It, Appalachain Adventure, and Trekkers at Tweedale.. I was in Ropes, Rocks and Rappelling in the summer before entering 11th grade, and almost everyone else in the program was the same age as me. However, there are also other options available. There are three programs this year geared toward getting you ready to be a counselor at camp. For more information on these programs, please go to the programs section of my web page. If you still are not totally convinced that you are not too old to come to camp, please email me with any concerns you might have.
Can I bring a friend with me to camp?
Of course you can! Making new friends at camp is part of the fun. However, a camper may list one friend with whom she would like to be placed while at camp. Campers who wish to be placed with a friend must register for the same program session and must indicate each other's name in the space provided on the registration form.
