Uncountable List

Welcome to my Uncountable Bird list. This is a very short list where I keep records of exotic species that are not currently accepted by various pertinent records committess, but for which I do want to remember the sighting.

The Uncountables (12/2/2008) - 2 species ID'd

  1. Helmeted Guineafowl (7/19/05) - Shawnee Mission Park, KS
  2. Helmeted Guineafowl (4/5/07) - SE Colorado
  3. Bar-headed Goose (8/2/07) - Schloss Nymphenburg, Munich

The guineafowl were seen on two occasions near SM Park on that trip, not far from my mother's residence. SM Park is a large suburban park with many nice thickets, creekbeds, and open fields. I was initially excited about seeing them, but some time afterwards as I learned more about exotic birds I realized these were certainly escapees and not part of an establishing population. I've not seen them (nor heard about them) on visits since, and likely they have perished by now.

In the previous version of this page, I had included my 2005 Common Myna sightings in south Florida - since then, the Common Myna has been accepted by the ABA as an established introduced species, and the birds I observed there are part of that population. So I have been able to add a new bird to my ABA lists! Unfortunately, what the list giveth, it also taketh away.

While reviewing and updating my Germany list, I came to realize that the Bar-headed Geese I saw in Munich were more likely feral and not from an established population, at least not yet. So I have to take them off my life lists and put them here, in list purgatory.
