In This Issue: Hari Dass Singh Khalsa, Chiropractor Stress primarily affects the adrenal glands, which are there to prepare the body for action in dangerous situations. Problems arise when the adrenals are overextended by being subjected to long-term stress. When this occurs, body tissues begin to break down and the immune system is compromised, ultimately resulting in a number of chronic degenerative conditions. As a medical professional, I can suggest four simple steps to protect yourself against the potential ravages of stress: eliminate the use of stimulants (caffeine and sugar), eat only when hungry, get proper sleep when tired and exercise regularly (yoga, weight training) followed by relaxation. In our clinic, we use a number of approaches to combat the effects of stress, including lifestyle management, yoga, meditation, nutrition and herbal supplements.
