In the beginning there was Dungeons & Dragons
But it got heavy
And many put it down
I did
Then came Paranoia
But it became frivolous
And it frivoled away
Then came the Masquerade
And it was fun
And many bought it
I did
But I lost it since
From the Masquerade
Came the Mlkavian
They mixed syllables and cases
And were creative
In there spelling
And ivented
A mad new poetry
I am
Gothic traped in a Nerds body
I'm a eposodic skitzo effective umbrella
Thats what the doctor fella told me
He said don't worry
Just tke these pills and see
There once was a clown that was totally mad
So they gave him pills that made him sad
So he painted the face of a clown
Over the froun
And it made all the children
So glad
Psychosis affects 2% of the general population, 20% of professional scientists and 60% of professional artists. The cliché of genius being close to madness goes back a long way. Is it possible that psychosis is an unpleasant side affect of original thought?
In the long long ago psychosis would have been put down to daemon possession. This would have led to the individual being put through an exorcism or some well to do widow being put through a witch trial. Things have improved since.
Then psychosis was put down to trauma or working too hard on that bright idea. Many people were told to quit their work as it was making them sick.
Then it was put down to chemicals, the new medications are a great success in treating the disorder. OK there are a few side affects, but don’t stop taking your medication and don’t take any drugs.
Now genes are all the rage, isolating the psychotic gene is just around the corner. Then there will be a genetic cure.
What if they are right? What if they do find a cure? Is it possible the world will have no bright ideas? We will have a sane boring world. Perhaps an out brake of Chronic Boredom Syndrome?
A pretentious but amusing idea for any one who has had psychosis.
