An Original Thought on Psychotic Thought

Psychosis affects 2% of the general population, 20% of professional scientists and 60% of professional artists. The cliché of genius being close to madness goes back a long way. Is it possible that psychosis is an unpleasant side affect of original thought?
In the long long ago psychosis would have been put down to daemon possession. This would have led to the individual being put through an exorcism or some well to do widow being put through a witch trial. Things have improved since. Then psychosis was put down to trauma or working too hard on that bright idea. Many people were told to quit their work as it was making them sick.
Then it was put down to chemicals, the new medications are a great success in treating the disorder. OK there are a few side affects, but don’t stop taking your medication and don’t take any drugs.
Now genes are all the rage, isolating the psychotic gene is just around the corner. Then there will be a genetic cure.
What if they are right? What if they do find a cure? Is it possible the world will have no bright ideas? We will have a sane boring world. Perhaps an out brake of Chronic Boredom Syndrome?
A pretentious but amusing idea for any one who has had psychosis.
