A True
Australian Head of State A Proposal for Discussion by Yogi Rasputan
There
has been much talk recently of the need to have an Australian head of
state. Most of the talk has lent toward the ideal of republic. The problem
with this is that republics have such a bad track record. Yet there are
other models to look at and this is one of them. In
1905 Norway became independent, they decided on a constitutional Monarchy.
The problem with this was they didn’t have a monarch, they never did. So
they advertised for one. The successful applicant was very popular, formed
the foundation of a stable government and his lineage continues to this
day. I am suggesting something similar. We could have a
constitutional monarchy with a truly Australian head of state. Some one
with no out side loyalties to distract them from a singular dedication to
up holding a uniquely Australian ideal. This person could only be found in
one segment of contemporary Australian society. The only truly Australian
head of state would have to be an Aboriginal.
Applicants would be sought and would have to be considered
according to some sort of criteria. I would suggest something along these lines…
Must be a full blood Aboriginal. This would be to start with, it would probably be
impractical and certainly unethical to require racial purity for marriage within
the royal family. Must
not have any clear party political affiliations. Must
be articulate in English and have a good knowledge of law, politics and
history. While maintaining at least some connection with there traditional
language and culture. Some consideration will have to be given to the language,
as this will be of great cultural significance for at least the term of the
monarch’s natural life and probably into the distant future. Must
have a noble stature. Remember this persons face will appear on our coins and
stamps in our government offices, schools, police stations, ect ect ect. It
would be convenient if they could demonstrate some noble lineage within there
native community. This would give them greater respect amongst the established
royalty of the world. Could
be male or female, further the lineage would be carried by the eldest child
regardless of gender.
Must be heterosexual, sorry if this is not politically correct, but a queen has to do what a queen has to do.
Any
spouse or children would have to be given equal scrutiny. Parents, siblings and
even aunts, uncles and cousins would have to be considered.
Remember
once the crown is on that’s it. There would have to be a ceremony something
like seen in a wedding, “speak now or forever hold your peace”. I doubt the
debate would ever end but once the crown is on, it stays on. That’s the whole
point in a monarchy. This
would be the ultimate in reconciliation. It would give an inseparable tie
between the Aboriginals and the rest of the Australian community. It would give
Aboriginals full recognition of their rite full place in Australian society. It
would provide a solution that both republicans and monarchists could agree on. Can
you imagine John Howard on his knees swearing allegiance or maybe Pauline
Hanson doing the same. Best of all our new monarch can apologize on behalf of
the Australian people for all the terrible things done to Aboriginals. An
Australian head of state, a monarchy and an Aboriginal at the highest level of
government, what more could we ask for. Of course we would have our knockers,
but they would be easily fended off with cries of “racist”.
Perhaps
two or three candidates could be selected by a committee and this put to the
vote on a one citizen one vote once principal. Of course this committee would
have to be voted in. Another committee would first have to be elected to put
together the model for the constitution to support our new monarch. This
committee would produce two or three models to be put to the vote. This could
only be done after a vote on the general principle. That only after a
referendum on a strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree principle.
The referendum would say “I would conceder the possibility of having a truly
Australian head of state if the conditions were right and an appropriate model
could be found at some time in the future”. From the results a ratio with a
base of 200 could be produced and we would have proof of Australia’s
convictions. I’m not sure if I have got this quite right so it would have to
taken to a committee.
Responses
Kerry O’Flarty AKA “Blue” of the Iindipendent Republic of Australia. “Bloody
brilliant mate. That will be one in the eye for the pom’s.”
Patricia Ophelia Martins the 2nd, Jnr Apprentice Letter Opener, Windsor Palace
“We are not amused.”
Theodore Ernest of Protect Our Monarchy
“I can't see why they don't just leave our queen alone.”
Uranta Punga Pingi of the United Kuri Front
“This is very badly phrased, the grammar is terrible, and there’s lots of spelling mistakes. You have totally failed to address the Kuri communities need for positions of prominence and acknowledgment of our traditional ownership. For only a small fortune I would be happy to sit on your committee and put you right.
PS: Please find enclosed my photo, genetic scan, resume and a book I have written on traditional Kuri culture."
