Volume 4                                                                                                                                                           Number 3

Ok Bloods, here's the chant;
You know the PSN.  You love the PSN.  You find them useful, funny, or whatever.  I want help.  Either help with this rag, or fill in the requests in the Bulletin Board.  Read on...
Also, I have recently met a distant reporter for the PSN.  He said weird things are going on.  Bwimb, the paraelemental baron of Ooze, is suddenly missing.  He is usually an arrogant blowhard who is too full of himself, but at least is fairly powerful and very knowledgeable.  His suddenly going underground is a bad thing.  Remember that blood, and look a second time before leaping...

I. Role Call
Nothing has changed here.  No news to report (see previous reports if you want the chant)

II. Where was I?
This is for comparison for Yogi's other campaigns.  This is the year Hashkar 126 (for those on Sigilian calendars), approximately 6 months after the completion of the Great Modron March, and about two and a half years since the original swallowing of Plague-Mort.  For those keeping track, that is about four and a half since a certain elf and his party first accidentally used rotten pomegranates to go to Baator...  Wow, it has been a while, hasn't it?

III. When we last saw our heros...
The heroes spent about a week in Jo-Ann's because of horrible rains and storms.  Sure, some heroes still went out (Melana's trip to the Foundry and Teb and Xandar's shopping trips), but realistically, the newest members of the group really didn't see much of the city.  That is, until the rains slowed to a point there was a fairly clear, to the point where they could see across the city (literally!).  Let's just say they were stunned.
Half of the group was just heading out shopping, and as Teb bargained for a different dagger, Melana, A.J., and Quell'Ath went back to their room, finding the door open.  After a bit of investigation, they found Mulk, the Shad, a friend of their's hanging from a well made chain in their room, dead.  Communicating over the Roses to the other group (they still hadn't shown the new primes how to use them), the other group came as quickly as possible to investigate too.
With the group reassembled, they took a closer look, and found a sheet of paper tucked under the chain noose.  Pulling it out, it was read.  However, explosive runes don't read easily (hee hee), and after suffering those effects, they found another note.  This time, someone decided to detect magic, and found that this sheet of paper was safe, but the piton that held the chain into the ceiling had some magic on it.  They informed Mara (current owner of Jo-Ann's) and she deactivated the trap and took care of the poor body.  They read the new sheet and were informed that Quimath the Kyton was going to restart the Iron Shadow (a creativity draining disease that the heroes defeated last campaign) unless those responsible for stopping it before (Melana, Teb, Xandar, Glaradrin, and Janfri (Mul fighter/psionicist that has since left the party) gave themselves up to his kytons.  The heroes recalled that they had Selune use a wish spell to prevent the Iron Shadow from ever returning again, so they doubted he could actually do it (he may not even know he can't yet).  However, they didn't like being known where they were, being constantly hunted, and having their friends killed.  So they decided they need to hunt him down.
They decided to head back to the Infinite Staircase, and on the way, found the dwarven smiths who's shop held the entrance to the staircase had been slain.  The elder and his wife were both mercilessly beaten to death, as was the young child.  The middle aged adult dwarf was mysteriously missing.  After looking around and seeing the place sacked, they headed out to the stairway.  The barred stairway doorway had been broken down, as they found out.
Just getting onto the staircase, it was discovered they the doorway was watched.  They went a distance before they realized that the chained fiends were following them from underneath the Staircase as they walked (remember, the stairway uses relative gravity, so both side thought "down" was the Staircase).  However, after an amusing battle, where the heroes were yelling "Don't sever the chains", spells took attack from many casters, the mage nearly got chain beat to death, and one kyton took a wrong step on a broken leg and fell of the Staircase (to fall into a random plane).  However, they found a note that explained the attack.  It was also from Quimath, stating that they were to follow any one who left Sigil by that door if they wore roses of any color, particularly if they had a halfling, an aasimar, an elf, a cloaked figure, and/or a tall purple mul.  He knew at least that much about them.
On the Staircase, they had a few minor things.  The more senior members of the group informed the newbies how to use the roses (for those who want more info, let me know privately), and then had an uneventful meeting with an Arcanaloth.  Aside from that though, it was quiet until they got to the Planewalker's Guild.
There, they heard that the Drow had finally stopped looking for them there.  There was some joy.  They also heard that some kytons were poking around, but not as steadily, and not as aggressively as the Drow had been.  However, every once in a while, they still dropped into the area looking for something.  There was less joy.  However, they found their friend, Arkon, the Athasian half-giant they were friends with and warned him of possible attack.  He was glad to see them, and asked after Janfri, but they had not heard much since he left about a month back.
They continued on until they found a landing they knew, the one that took them to the formian mines and Arcadia.  Going in, they found an erected wall and doorway, with a bell, to be used for visitors.  They used it and were taken by the guarding myrmarch to see their friend, Hannock Ringfinger, the gnome that accompanied them for a while.  There, they find that the formians have gotten the water under control, and that formain life has almost returned to normal.  Hannock is glad to see them, and they rest there, as it has been a very long day of hiking up the Staircase.  The formians are prepared for the possible invasion (or so they think) from the kytons to protect Hannock, and the next day, the heroes head back to the PWG.
There they prepare to go to Baator, and the city of Jangling Hinter, the home of the kytons.  Also, Xandar finally decides to send the mage Halnon a message [For those late on the chant, they originally promised months back to write the mage regularly about the planes to help him learn, and if they did this, he would no longer be focused on trapping and keeping planar travelers and beings.].  However, when he opened it, he recognized a spell crystal.  The type that held a delayed blast fireball!  He quickly shook it over the edge, flinging the stone off the Staircase.  It exploded and woke all up, but no one was harmed and it did not teleport.  Also flinging out of it were dozens of sheets of paper.  Many were lost, but some were salvaged, and they hand some pretty interesting messages.  Janfri's name was even on one.  However, this is where the scene closed.

IV. When we next meet...
Tagalong Game: Sunday, October 17, 1999, at 1 P.M. in the Pfeiffer Hall Main Lounge.  I should be there by noon, for those who need character work.

V. Bazaar Bargains
This month, we will focus on a small shop that actually is in a building, and is very well protected, especially magically and psionicly, The Stone Finder.
This small, well secured shop is focused on selling and buying gems from the planes.  He has nearly anything an enterprising bribe or spellcaster may need.  He takes a 10% profit from any transaction, but as the local barmaid usually can't change rubies in for beers for equal value.  It is run and owned by an enterprising bytopian gnome named Wedlan Ringfinger [And bonus points for anyone who can tell me what his first name means in gnomish!].  He is a shrewd judge of stone quality, and is very rarely wrong.  Also, he is often soft-hearted, giving full refunds for stone value (no 10%) if he every does.  He has regulars that are jewelry makers, spellcasters getting their specific material components, and faceless men always needing to give some sparkle to some high-up.  It is because of this last group that he often also has chant regarding some of the berg's biggest blackmailers.  He does good work, and is a straight-up man.  A bit hyper, but what gnome isn't.  Oh, and before I forget, don't try to rob him.  He has a variety of agents working for him, and the two hydroloth bodyguards he has are proof enough of this.  Never underestimate the gnome, but if you respect him, he does likewise.  Good advice to take on ths planes...

VI. Jo-Ann's Bulletin Board
I place this board up with yet no responsibility for what gets put on it.  I make only two rules in regards to this board.  One, I want nothing promising or directly causing violence.  Two, no extreme factional screed.  A little word her or there is fine.  But this ain't you soddin' podium.  Just use it to get in contact with other cutters, or spread general messages.  If not, Downbeat will make your brain-box into mush.  Thanks, and hope this is good.
                                                    Jo-Ann

That goes double from me, plus Tokkon will want a piece of you too!

        Alright sods,
I've asked for more help.  So here is something EXACT that you can do.  I
reworked the character and group sections and I finally saw how little you
guys have helped.  So this is what I want; Look at my site and send me the parts
for you characters.  If you don't have a section up in the characters section, send
me a character description (in or out of character, no matter to me).  If you
don't have a report in the group section, send me an IN CHARACTER review of the
group.  Be as vague or specific as you want.  But I want that info.  Next week I
start naming names.  You have been warned!

The powers are frauds, as true gods can't die.  Deal with it!
                                                    -Nameless Athar
        Sod off, you sodding sod!
                                                    -Mara

        Hey Lurkers,
Yeah, you who read this rag, but have never played in a campaign of mine.  I
want to know what you, the public, really think, and help me think of way to
expand this.  Same for the website.  Please look if you haven't in a while.  I do this
for all you.  Please, let me know.
                                                    - The Editor
P.S. I forgot to attribute last week's Planescape Notes section: Bazaar Bargains
to Steve R.  Thanks for the help!

"EWM seeking familiar.  Must be under two feet, housebroken, and fluent in
Common.  Wings a plus.  Cranium rats need not apply, as they will be laughed at,
        and then run away from."

"Oh yeah, applicants please see Athril."
                                                    -Athril

        Hey all!
I get to actually play soon, and be a truly unique character too.  If you
want info on "Slick", the ice mage, let me know!  I'm thinking of doing reports of
him in a section called Prime Prattlings in a unique way.  Send e-mail to me with
Prime Prattlings as a subject and your vote.  I'll do as you say!
                                                    - Dave

Do you want to say something clever, useful, or just put something on the board.  Then give it to the management, and it will be posted.  Or you can post it yourself.  Just let us know.

VII.  Footnote
Keep safe all of you.  A planewalker doesn't always get many friends, and each of those is very important.  Never forget that, wherever you may roam (and regardless of portal lag).
