QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q) What should I wear?

A) Yoga postures are best practiced in bare feet.  It is wise to wear loose comfortable clothing.  Bring some warm clothes for the relaxation or a blanket or sleeping bag.

Q) I am a Christian, is yoga a religion?

 A) No yoga is not religion or an occult, Classical yoga is non sectarian which means that It does not define God.  One can be any religion or either no religion to practice yoga.  Yoga helps us all to know ourselves better improving our relationship with ourselves and with others, it helps promote contentment and inner peace which is our birthright.

Q) Will yoga make me loose weight?

A) Yes but not like other activities such as aerobics. Classical yoga is not like power yoga which solely concentrates on the physical appearance of ones body. Classical yoga helps to restore balance in mind and equilibrium in the body bringing back harmony so that cravings are less.  Your body will become more supple, toned and flexible over time in combination with the yogic lifestyle diet and Indian philosophy you should become your natural weight.

Q) I am not flexible, I don’t feel confident because every one will be better than me.

A)  Yoga practice will improve your confidence and inner strength.  Flexibility will improve over time with practice.  Yoga is non competitive we are all here to become better people, nobody will judge you.  Classical Yoga concentrates on the mind and the subtle energies (prana) within, opposed to superficial egotistical forms of yoga that purely concentrate on how one looks.   Classical yoga does not engage in unusual displays of gymnastics, the postures and techniques are simple and gentle, therefore you will not strain yourself at any time and you know your limitations. If you feel uncomfortable at any time during the course please inform Clare who will guide and help you.

A) Of course not!!!!  The founders guru of the Yoga institute in India was over one hundred and twenty years old.  Many Yogis in the Himalayas practice yoga and are over a hundred years of age.  It is our conditioned society that makes us “feel” that we cannot do the things we used to do, infact yoga can  help with your longetivity.

Q) I am male, will all the class be female?

A) No,  previous courses there were many male students who were alone and with partners, however the ratio of men to women is about one to seven, unlike in India where more men study the subject.

Q) I have a terminal illness, can I still practice yoga?

A) Yes, however, there may be specific postures that you will not be allowed to do due to any medication you may be taking.  You will be given a form to complete at the start of the course, this will help the yogic practitioner to define which postures you are contraindicated to so that modified postures can be prescribed.  Yoga therapy has been used in nearly all diseases and disorders to help with the immune system, endocrine system and all other systems of the body to help the body heal itself.  Yogic philosophy for positive thinking is also a main objective of the course.
