It
has been a while since the last time I was so excited about a
customizing project.
The
idea of this one came after reading some of the good WWII Sven
Hassel's novels.
I
got more good references and suggestion from one of my reference
books, 'Waffen SS uniforms in color photographs' by Steven &
Amodio.
Some
pics of a camouflage overalls catched my attention. It seems it
has been proven to be popular among the crews of armored vehicles
for concealment when away from the vehicle.
The
example I saw also was stated to be an unusual sample with an
attached hood.
Although
I have made several different overalls and also hoods never made
overalls with attached hood, also showing the fact that the hood
was supposed to be reversible.
The
main camouflage pattern is spring oak leaf pattern, and the parts
of the hood and collar inside are autumn oak leaf pattern -OK, it
is a bit reddish tone but nobody is perfect- :).
As
using my last pieces of camouflaged fabric, it was such a pity I
couldn't use the small pieces for the uniforms... But hey!, I
found a use for those pieces too!, visor caps!
This
one could be possibly the figure of the month in my collection,
or how to kitbash different items you don't like to convert it in
a cool figure:
The
uniform is GiJoe. Although I preferred the lightweight fabric
Hasbro used for this one, the pattern of the uniform didn't like
me too much, specially the pants which were too tight if compared
with the jacket which was a bit wide.
I
combined different items:
Medicom
body with Mr K head and Cotswold hands
GiJoe
82nd uniform
M60,
the modern version from 21st as well as some pouches
The
only remarkable piece of this figure is its splinter camo smock.
It is not the classic fallschirmjager jump smock, but the one
worn by Luftwaffe Infantry troopers, widely used in Normandy and
the Bulge.
The
rest of the stuff used for making this uniform is kitbashing
pieces from here and there...
