COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
HANWELL UBC MAY 25. 2002
COUNCIL MEETING
Regrets; Larry Matthews, David DuBois, Harold Arbo, Susan Christie.
The Moderator opened the meeting with prayer. He presented the agenda and asked for any additional items. There being none Ken chase/ Karl Csaszar made a motion to accept the agenda. Carried.
The Host pastor Perry Hanley read scripture from Matthew 19: 16-24. "The Rich Young Ruler".
He welcomed all to the caring Church on the Corner.
Any possessions we have should be held with an open hand ready to give or for God to take,
Be always ready to give and always be receptive to someone else. Nothing in this world is worth taking our eyes off Christ and the Cross. He ended with prayer.
The clerk read the minutes of the last Council meeting held at Skyline Acres UBC on February 25, 2002. They were adopted as distributed and read.
There was no correspondence other than " Notices of Motion" to be presented at Convention in August.
TREASURERS REPORT
Jim McClare passed around copies of his report, which was quite similar to that presented at association.
$2,000 Grant money remains for Harvey UBC for their Well Project.
Balance on hand is $6, 587.37.
Offering from the association meeting was $274.37.
Jim McClare/ Karl Csaszar made a motion to accept the Treasurer's Report as amended (removed excess amount in men's Budget). Carried.
No Old Business.
A roll call of Commissions present showed Youth-0, Missions-5, Ministry-2, Christian Training-0, Social Action- 2, Women's- 5, Men's-1, Finance-3.
We dismissed to Commission Meetings and reassemble at 8:00 PM for refreshments.
COMMISSION REPORTS
MISSIONS--Peggy Chase
5 members present + Harry Waugh. Gerry Horsman opened with prayer. A Thank You card was read from Hanwell UBC for money from the Benefit Concert for their kitchen. Grants from Convention were approved as recommended by the Commission.
They strongly recommended that the Women at Association hold their Missionary speaker at the first of the program so the Men can here the message before they retire, and have their business meeting later.
Suggested as well that the Home Gospel Concert be held on Friday night of association Meetings. It was also suggested the Missions Commission keep in closer contact with the smaller churches in the Association to encourage them.
WOMEN'S--Alice Gilmore.
6 Members present- Plans for the Fall association Meeting were discussed. The speaker for the Saturday meeting will be Jeff McCarrell working with the Somali people in Toronto.
Information letters will be sent out to UMW groups I September.
FINANCE--Jim Mcclare.
Offerings from the benefit concerts should be channeled through the Treasurer for accounting purposes.
$2,370.00 of the Grant budget is still unallocated.
A motion was made by Karl Csaszar/ Jerry Horsman to accept all Commission reports as presented. Carried.
Area Minister report was presented at Association.
NEW BUSINESS
The Clerk will approach 1st. Kingsclear UBC to host the February Council meeting.
Association Meetings for 2003 are the responsibility of the Christian Training for the Spring and the Missions Commission for the Fall. Greenwood Drive and Mactaquac will be approached to host these meetings.
The Fall 2002 Association Meeting will be the responsibility of the Executive Committee and will be held at Brunswick St. UBC. Dr. John harder of Gospel Missionary Union will be in the area at that time to present meetings at Faith and Skyline acres and can be scheduled as the speaker for the Friday Evening Service and the Saturday Meeting Devotional.
Karl Csaszar will approach Gordon James to establish a Web Site for the Association and will work with Russ Crosby to maintain it.
Some discussion took place on the roll and direction for the Communications Director.
Bill Blaney reported on the meeting of the Sub Committee, which is mandated to take a look at the overhaul of our Association.
A motion to adjourn was made by Karl Csaszar and Orville Stairs closed with prayer.
