A strange dream comes to Stone in the
night...
Through hazy grey skies,
cloud-laden, wind and rain whipping about you as you soar above
Elbridge. Stabs of lightning and claps of thunder erupt all around
you as you descend - then the smell of burning and tearing wood as a
tree, struck, starts to fall outside Webber's Wayside Inn. You seem
drawn towards it very fast as the falling timber smashes into a Dodge
Intrepid parked outside - glass shattering outwards in glittering
cresents from its windows as the metal frame buckles under the
impact. The sound of rain and glass tinkling across wet asphalt
fills your ears.
Webber's Wayside Inn, Banished
Sun...
Yosannah stares at the image of
Stone...
The image of Stone is kicked
back in his lawn chair in Castille, sporting his dark subtle medieval
garb. He glances up, "Yes'm?"
To the image of Stone, Yosannah is
sitting amongst candle lit tables at Webber's. The room is dark and
the occasional flash of what appears to be lightning can be seen in
the background, "Damn power is out all over Elbridge... and you're
yuck'n it up in... Where the hell are you?"
The image of Stone raises an eyebrow,
"There a storm there?" he asks, sitting up.
To the image of Stone, Yosannah nods,
"Yes. It's windy as all hell and my power is out. Aren't you
listening? I can't even take a shower because the hot water heater
isn't working." She sighs, "I'm thinking of running to the store and
getting more candles."
The image of Stone considers this before
saying, "Was there a Dodge parked outside last time you
looked?"
To the image of Stone, Yosannah reaches
into her pocket and holds up a set of keys, "Besides my car. I don't
think so. I could go look if you like... let met call you back in a
few..."
The image of Stone says quickly, "Whoa,
whoa, whoa."
To the image of Stone, Yosannah seems
about to fade away but then her image abruptly returns into full
view? "What. It's no biggy, I gotta get candles anyway." She shrugs.
The image of Stone shakes his head,
saying, "Wait. I have something strange to tell you
first."
To the image of Stone, Yosannah rolls her
eyes. A flash of lightning glares off the wall behind her and she
flinches at the sound of cracking thunder - both dangerously close.
The image of Stone says "I had a dream
that lightning hit a tree right outside Webber's and smashed into a
Dodge parked outside. Now it hadn't happened then. But I think it's
going to happen now. So don't get hit by glass. That's all I'm
saying."
To the image of Stone, Yosannah hehs,
"You had a dream. Nice..." At that moment another flash followed by
an explosive boom is heard in the room, "What the..." And then she is
gone...
Elbridge - Banished
Sun...
Stone jogs out of the woods, dripping
head to toe with water.
Yosannah is standing in the rain,
grasping her left wrist with her right hand, the sound of sirens can
be heard in the distance. They seem to be approaching from Dover. She
is gazing at her car, a silver Intrepid which is now crushed under
the weight of a fallen oak. A bystandered seems to be ripping a
cloth of some sort. He holds it out to Yosannah, "Miss. Your hand...
take this."
Stone jogs over, glancing at the car. He
says to Yosannah as he approaches, "I knew never listening to me
would bite you in the ass eventually."
Two police cars arrive at the Inn, lights
continue to flash as their sirens are silenced. Car doors are closed
behind them as the officers exit their vehicles. An officer mutters,
"...bugger me.."
Yosannah turns her gaze to Stone as blood
drips from her fingers. She blinks away the rain from her eyes, "My
car..."
Stone looks at her hand, "Worry more
about yourself." he says.
The gentleman holding the ripped cloth
holds it out, once again, for her. She reaches for it and begins to
wrap it around the palm of her hand and her wrist, "Jesus... I just
went to take a look," Some pressure is applied, "Ouch,
damnit."
Stone looks back at the car and then
takes his pocketwatch out, eyeing it thoughtfully.
Finally, a fire truck emerges from the
road to Dover. The crew begins to filter out of the vehicle and move
to inspect the damage. At the same time, the officers approach
Yosannah and Stone, "All right now, let's get you looked at,
righty... over here now."
Stone glances at the officer and then
nods, gesturing for Yosannah to go with them.
Yosannah is shuffled over to the entrance
of the Inn under an overhang and out of the rain, she looks over her
shoulder at Stone.
Stone follows, glancing back at the car
once more, then looking up into the sky, eyes narrowing as if
searching for something.
At some point in the confusion, a
paramedic had arrived. He is unwrapping Yosannah's make-shift bandage
as Stone follows after her.
"I don't know what I did... I was leaning
into the car," She looks up at that point and her eyes fall on Stone,
"It was a piece of glass."
Stone nods toYosannah's words looking
back at her.
The paramedic nods, "You'll need a stitch
or two, I imagine."
Stone nods, glancing back down, "That's
not to bad then."
He nods while inspecting her hand, "Not
too bad at all," the paramedic offers for Yosannah's sake.
Yosannah sighs, obviously uncomfortable
with the attention, "I'll be fine."
Stone grins, "See. All's well,
etc."
"In the mean time... here, a new wrap
until we can get you out of here." He makes his way over to a nearby
officer and they begin to converse, leaving Stone and Yosannah to
themselves. The rain seems even and steady though less
threatening.
Stone glances up, saying, "Well, looks
like we should get inside."
Yosannah is propped up against the
doorway of the Inn, "So, you wanna tell me something." She moves to
stand so they might go into the Inn, "Can you open the door please."
Stone pushes the door open and lets her
go in first.
Webber's Wayside Inn, Banished
Sun...
There are no lights in this room save for
the glow of candles and an oil lamp. A card rests on one of the
tables.
Yosannah sits at the chair near the
fireplace and lets out a long sigh.
Stone glances at the card, trying to see
what it's of.
Yosannah makes no effort to hide the
tarot from him. It is obviously a trump bearing his image.
Stone says, "Leaving these things just
sitting around?" he grins, "Good for you."
Yosannah mutters, "Glass. You mentioned glass. I heard a crash and ran out to see what happened - it got left behind. Sorry."
Stone waves, "Not a big deal." he picks
it up and brings it to her, "Yep. I sure did say glass."
Yosannah's gaze lingers on the candle at
the table. As he returns the card, "Thank you." And then, "I don't
suppose you can let those guys out there know that I'm not going to
the hospital tonight? Somehow I suspect they'll listen to you." She
indicates her left hand, "I can take care of this myself."
Stone nods, "I'll tell 'em on the way
out."
Yosannah nods lightly a few times,
"Good." After a moment, "How did you know? About the car and the
glass." She is obviously puzzled.
Stone says, "I know everything,
remember?"
Yosannah mmms, "If only I'd listen." She
notes, "Of course, this really means that you have no
idea."
Stone smirks, "Au contraire, my doubting
one." He shows you his pocketwatch, "This is my magic watch. It tells
me the future. Apparently."
Yosannah rolls her eyes, "You're funny."
Stone puts it away, "Fine, doubt the
magic watch." He takes a seat, "Anyway, I had that dream. Had a dream
about Crimson too. Need to see if he fell off a stool."
Yosannah raises a brow, "What?"
Stone says "Crimson. I dreamed he fell
off a stool. In Kama probably. Lavender lighting."
Yosannah is, as Stone indicated,
doubtful, "Lavender. Kama. Right. And your watch tells you these
things. Are you sure it's the watch?"
Stone shrugs, "That's the newest thing I
got. I suppose it could be a mysterious curse or something like
that."
Yosannah motions with her hand, "Let me
see the watch."
Stone takes it out and hands it to you,
watching curiously.
Yosannah slides it across the table and
looks down at it. A fob watch of iron grey with a relief of an eye
on it's cover. The winding and setting knob is rusted into
immobility, although pushing down on the button will release the
clasp to reveal a stain-spotted white face under glass with elegant
hands and roman numerals. The chain seems servicable enough and is
complete with buttonhole bar and a dangling silver charm which also
depicts an eye.
She holds it up, "It's a piece of junk.
Reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode though. The one where the guy
has a watch that can stop time. He ends up breaking it when time is
stopped and then he's all alone? Remember that one?" She mutters as
she inspects the wrap on her hand, "...good episode."
Stone smirks, "If I could stop time you'd
find yourself in the middle of Dover dressed like, I dunno, a turkey.
A turtle. Something silly."
"Like Romneous. -That- would be funny."
She blinks a couple times, "I need to go lay down. Let this heal
up."
Stone nods, "Actually, let me hang on to
that. I want to see if I dream of me getting laid or
something."
Yosannah opens her mouth to comment, but
closes it just as fast, "Yeah, take it." She slides the chair away
from the table, the pitter patter of rain can be heard on the rooftop
of the Inn.
Stone takes the watch and then stands,
saying, "Get some rest. I'll take care of the people
outside."
Yosannah nods, "Okay." She turns to head
up the stairs but pauses, glancing over her shoulder in his
direction, "Stone. Thanks for coming." She shrugs, "To make sure
everything was okay."
Stone grins, "Hey, all part of the job."
And with that he turns, heading out.
