Porcelain Basin

Porcelain Basin

This is a view of the Porcelain Basin at Norris Geyser Basin. The high acidity of the water prevents the growth of plants and speeds the deposition of the grey white geyserite. Thus, the large barren basin. The hot spring activity here is intense. New springs regularly open here while old ones change their character or die. Most of the geysers in this basin are relatively small but they are quite active. The changing nature of the basin coupled with the colors, sights, sounds and SMELLS make the Porcelain basin a very interesting place to visit.
