Tentative 2000

Major Yellowstone Road Construction Schedule

The following information is provided by The National Parks Service and is subject to change. As you enter the park you will be given current information. You can call the park at (307) 344-7381 for a recorded update.

Road construction is perennial in Yellowstone. During 2000, major road construction projects will affect three sections of road -- as shown on map below, these are -- Lake Junction to West Thumb, the East Entrance Road from Fishing Bridge to the East Entrance and the Northeast Entrance Road from the park boundary to the Northeast Entrance station. With this in mind, consider the following options: extra time for delays and alternate routes.

Fortunately, this year no road closures are scheduled as has occurred the last few years. Thus construction this year should only be a nuisance instead of a major inconvenience as it has been.

The most disruptive construction for most park visitors will be the the construction between Lake Junction and West Thumb.

Besides the major construction projects, there will also be minor construction projects of a short term nature that will be ongoing throughout the park. These projects rarely cause long delays Only the major road construction projects are listed below.
