Steamboat Geyser is the largest active geyser in the world more than twice the size of the tallest Old Faithful eruptions. I have been told (I haven't seen it, but someday....) that it is still growing in this picture. Eruptions of this size from Steamboat are very rare. As of this writing (March 1997) Steamboat's last eruption was in 1991. But all is not lost, during one fifty year period, it never did erupt. So will you see an eruption of Steamboat. I won't say no. I mean someone will be there when it goes but in the meantime, you can stop by to see its minor behavior which often consists of spurts to a mere 40 feet.
