Upper Geyser Basin From The Air

The Upper Geyser Basin From the Air.

This is a view of the Upper Geyser Basin from the air. The geyser basin is in the foreground. You can see the white sinter deposits of the geysers and hotsprings and steam rising from various geysers. Old Faithful geyser is located at the right side of the basin.

This picture was take from the west side of the basin and looks east. The hill behind the basin is the Mallard Lake resurgent dome. This is an area of geologically recent volcanic activity. Behind the resurgent dome is Yellowstone lake and behind that is the Absaroka mountain range. This mountain range, forms the eastern boundary of Yellowstone National Park.

This picture is from the University of Utah Seismic site.
