"Big Horn Sheep"

Prior to 1998 I had never seen a bighorn sheep in the wild. Even though I have done considerable hiking within their range. Now that I look back I think it is because I was just not looking for them. You really must make an effort to find them because they blend in so well with their surroundings. Case in point, the day that I took these pictures I would ask people on the trail if they had seen any sheep today. They would say that they had not even though they had passed right by them as they came down the path.

Palm Canyon is becoming an almost sure thing for seeing bighorn. The visitor center has a board that people post their sightings. I feel that if you wanted to spend the weekend looking for bighorn, this would be the place where you would be most likely rewarded with a sighting.

Some people say that the sheep in Palm Canyon are getting too used to people. But the fact that this sheep is sticking it's tongue out probable just means that he thinks he has found a better Mesquite bush than we have.
