Piedras Grandes

The Yoni pictured above is about 4-foot in length. It appears that natural patterns, caused by weathering of the rock have been put to advantage in the design. It's located in the Piedras Grandes section of the park.


This area of the Jacumba Mountains contains many examples of how Yoni were created from natural rock formations. Even with the help of nature the Native American Artist still put substantial effort into the enhancements pounded out of the granite. Some of the sites were believed used by the tribe's shaman in fertility ceremonies. Bedrock slicks and morteros, probable used to prepare plants and herbs, can be found near some of the fertility signs.
