Our History

Core Group Members are the Mountaineers in PLDT who envisioned to have their own Mountaineering Club in their company. These individuals commited themselves in the formation and maintenance of the PLDT Mountaineering Club. The Core Group Members came from different Mountaineering Clubs, making their orientations different from one another. This common trait enabled PLDTMC to be an at-par mountaineering organization. And, because of the various skills and experiences of each Core Group Member, PLDTMC was learning from the mistakes of other Mountaineering Clubs.

The most popular and controversial Core Group member is Mr. Ferdie Leonor, Division Head of RECORDS Division. He was associated with Philippine Airlines Mountaineering Club (PALMC), and has been a consistent sportsman, all his life. He is a member of other PLDT sports organizations like PLDT Cycling Club, PLDT Shooter’s Club, PLDT Scuba Diving Club and PLDT Rowing Team. He was a freelance marathoner and a veteran of several competitions. He was the first President of PLDTMC.

Mr. Arnel Crisostomo, Division head of Makati CS/FASS, was the previous PLDTMC Vice-President for Luzon. Although he is rarely visible, he is a climbing buddy of Mr. Ferdie Leonor.

There are several PLDTMC Core Group Members who are products of Ayala Mountaineers (A.M.). They are EJ Santos of OSD, Odette Angara of MNTD and Joy Aspiras of Mkti OPSIM. Other Core Members who were associated with A.M. are Weng Duran of MNTD, Eugene Silva and Boy Siscar, both of Mkti OPSIM. EJ was the Vice President for Mindanao. Odette held the position of Treasurer. Eugene was the Auditor. Weng was the Secretary. And, Joy Aspiras, formerly the Business Manager.

Mr. Chris Modina, who unfortunately is not connected with PLDT and likewise with PLDTMC, was one of the founding members of San Beda Mountaineers.

PLDTMC’s Public Relations Officer and Head of Expedition, Noel Farrales of Mkti PABX, comes from PILIPINAS SIERRA. His experience and maturity is always looked upon by fellow mountaineers.

QCID’s Mike Salalila , was a member of La Salle Outdoors. He is one of the founders of PLDT Cycling Club. he held the position of PLDTMC Vice President for the Visayas.

The other Core Group members, who provide their unlimited support include Mkti OPSIM’s Tony Dimatulac, Danny Sta. Cruz, Boy Siscar and Jojo del Mundo; Joewe Cinco of CustRel, and Danny Lopez of ProdServ.

Noteworthy are the efforts of the Core Group in bringing about the first Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC) of the PLDT Mountaineering Club. Everyone was unselfish in sharing their knowledge and experiences to mold well-rounded mountaineers. Each individual was a dynamic part of the whole, making PLDTMC a "family", and not just an ordinary mountaineering organization.

PLDT Mountaineering Club evolved to PLDT Mountaineering and Outdoors Club Inc. since its members have diversified into different Outdoor disciplines and hobbies.
