Young Fellowship Newsletter

New name, New Fellowship, New gibberings No 3 10/06/1998

Past Events

We had a successful pub crawl, but we soon started our service programme by providing the canoe trek lunch stops for Scouts and our weekend at Harmergreen, where we fixed new posts into the ground, repaired a fence, cleared some wood and removed over a tonne of gravel off the road! Finally we judged the British Legion camping competition. The service is delivered in a fun way and the best way to have fun is to join in!

What’s in a Name?

It is intended to rename the Young Fellowship to differentiate us clearly from the current Fellowship (i.e two things called Fellowship in the District is confusing). After Harmergreen it was felt that we should call ourselves “The Edge SF (Scout Fellowship)”. Look at your Young Fellowship T-shirt if you want to know why. The Edge symbolises dynamism and action which is what we are all about. Please tell us what you think!

Ireland

Sorry people it is cancelled. No news on an alternate camp I am afraid either.

Subs..

We are going to need to get Fellowship cards sorted for the Gathering so we are going to need subs before summer! So no later than July 15th or no going to the Gathering as it takes an age to get your cards which you need! Cough up £11.50 if you aren’t a leader, a donation if you are and Venture Scouts pay nothing. Send subs to me or direct to Ray Lamb. Cheques made payable to Hertford and District Scout Fellowship.

Our Purpose For Being

We are taking this issue along with the bank account saga to a District Meeting. We are here to serve Scouting and to have fun. How we serve is an important issue, ideally by having fun (spit roasting troublesome cubs for Akela?). We need your views!

Car Rally

The Fellowship has planned a car rally for the 12th of July. Now this looks good. It is £4.50 per head, but you do get fed, and it is a cross Hertfordshire rally. Basically get as many people in the car as you can and explore the countryside. We feel this will be an excellent event, both in terms of fun and in terms of socialising with the Fellowship itself.

The AGM

It will be on the 30/08/1998, at Harmer Green. It is important that people attend to serve due democratic purpose. it will be just after the work party at the site. You don’t have to work to go to the AGM, turn up at the end of the work, have the AGM and then camp overnight (bank holiday weekend) and have a few beers. All are welcome.

More Harmergreen

Yes another opportunity to spend a fun weekend at Harmergreen doing some work to improve it and being fed for free! It is planned for the August bank holiday weekend and it will be run in the same way as before. This really is fun and we welcome everyone to help out. Come to the AGM immediately after lunch on the Sunday and hang around for a few beers afterward.

Regular Pub Quizzes

We like seeing everyone from time to time, Uggi is a very lonely man. We have instigated regular pub quizzes at the Three Horse Shoes pub just outside Watton. It will be on the first Sunday of the Month, starting in July. This is likely to become our main communication channel, so if you want to have a say and be kept in touch turning up will probably be a lot more interesting than reading these news letters. Pub quizzes do cost money sadly, but it is only £2 a head, and £1 is to keep our finances ticking over.
