“The Edge” News Letter
On “The Edge” of the Silly Season Issue 5 25/10/1998
Past Events
We have had some good pub quizzes, but not won a thing. A large contingent of our Fellowship provided considerable support at the Gathering, chasing Venture Scouts around London and naturally showing the Venture Scouts how to drink. A smaller contingent also gave valuable service at the District Night Hike doing everything from car park “coordination” to staying up and checking the teams in.
Rememberance Sunday
This is the 8th of November, lining up in Uniform (either the snazzy jumpers or your old Venture Scout Uniform) at 10.20am in St Andrews Street, Hertford. Please support this event.
Chamber’s Pot
This is the 28th of November (Saturday) at the Drill Hall Ware, a 7.00pm start. This year they promise computerised scoring and video projection! Bring your own food, tickets cost £3.00 and the monies are due (to Trudy) by the 15/11/1998. We are aiming for two teams, although we cannot win anything we can certainly show the Venture Scouts how thick they really are. Before this there is a quiz run by Goblin VSU on the 14/11/1998 (7.30-8.00pm start). Tickets £5.00 (including a ploughmans supper). Monies on the day and I’m quizmaster.. It is at Second Bengeo Scout Hut. Lets get a team together and get in practice!
The Christmas Do
We excel ourselves this year. Please see the flier for full details. It is on the 12/12/1998 at the Silver Fox. Tickets cost £15.00.
The County Challenge Cup
It is our duty to challenge Stevenage the current holders of the County Fellowship Trophy. To this end we will challenge them to Bowling at the Hollywood Bowl, Stevenage, at 6.00pm on Sunday 10/01/1999. Turn up and ensure victory is ours!
“The Edge Go Mad In Dorset”
We are planning a camp (indoor accomodation, not tents!) over the Easter weekend next year. The dates run 1st (Thursday) -5th (Monday) of April 1999. There will be a range of activites on offer, including Walking, Water Activities, Mountain Biking and Pony Treking, although these will be booked on demand. The total cost is earmarked for the £40-£45 mark, with a £5 non-returnable deposit required when the flier on this is issued with the next news letter. Book these dates NOW!
Some New Friends
At the recent County Fellowship Meeting Uggi made friends with a Young Fellowship from North Watford. Despite this they seemed keen that we team up on some events and do them together and help each other in other ways. They are perhaps a little more socially orientated than us, but that is no bad thing! Preliminary discussions are underway.
Executive News
At last we have our bank account. Should you need to write a cheque to us Trudy will be most happy to accept them. All cheques made payable to “The Edge Hertford District Scout Fellowship”. We also have a new Recruitment and Promotion Officer, one Rav Gera. He has taken on his role with gusto. Can you please report any approaches for new members that you make to him please to ensure we aren’t contacting them twice etc. He is immediately looking into turning our mailing list into paying and participating members. So if he rings you do not recoil in alarm!
